Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 43
Under Wu Yue’s guidance, the two of them dug steps leading up and down, then raised mud walls of equal height.
Finally, they began building the roof. It had the shape of an inverted V. The base consisted of thick wooden beams, followed by layers of large leaves, dry grass, and mud mixed with hay. On top of it all, they laid a thick woven grass mat and secured it with wooden beams.
In just one afternoon, Wu Yue’s house was completed. As she looked at the semi-subterranean structure, she could not help but sigh. She had finally built a home of her own.
With the house finished, Wu Yue happily invited her friends to visit her little den. Though she called it little, it was much larger and taller than Qing Hua’s straw hut. It felt spacious and looked beautiful.
The stairs connected to a wide interior. The house was well-lit and did not feel dark at all. The moment Qing Hua and Qing Cao stepped inside, they fell in love with it.
Qing Cao’s eyes sparkled. “Yue, your house is way bigger than our cave.”
She ran a lap around the room. “I want a house like this, too. You have to help me build one.”
She clung excitedly to Wu Yue’s arm and shook it up and down.
Wu Yue, dizzy from the shaking, quickly nodded. “I’ll help, I’ll help. I’ll help both you and Sister Qing Hua.”
Qing Hua’s two mates had already dropped their earlier skepticism. Any lingering resentment disappeared. When they heard that this little female was going to help build them such a beautiful shelter too, their eyes filled with gratitude.
Heavens knew how cramped it was for those large beastmen to squeeze into a hut barely big enough for one person to lie down.
Only when the house was expanded did one realize the advantage of living near the tribe’s edge.
There was still plenty of open space around Qing Hua’s home. With her mates, she picked a new plot. This time, Wu Yue designed a four-room layout with the staircase at the center and two rooms on each side.
With the design complete, the rest of the building work was left to Qing Hua’s mates. Wu Yue only offered guidance when it came to constructing the roof.
After Qing Hua’s house was finished, it caused a sensation in the pure human living area. Wu Yue’s name began spreading through the tribe.
Everyone heard that the new, skinny, pure human female could build a remarkable kind of house. It never exceeded the height limits, was beautiful and spacious, and even tall beastman warriors could walk upright inside.
Now that she had her own little home, Wu Yue packed up her things and moved in.
Calling them “things” was a stretch. Looking at the bundles of dried bitter greens in her hands, Wu Yue felt bitter herself. She really had nothing to her name.
Inside the bare house, with her meager food stashed in the corner, Wu Yue squatted on the floor and wiped her face. “System, I don’t see any sign of clubbing in this life.”
The system chuckled dryly. “Dun dun dun dun. Dearest host, hello. Your cute, beautiful, kind, thoughtful, and super-adorable system has returned. Are you surprised? Are you delighted?”
Wu Yue responded with a blank face. “Oh.”
“And then?” the system asked.
“Then nothing,” Wu Yue said.
“Dearest host, I originally had some earth-shaking good news to share with you, but seeing you look half-dead has really ruined my mood.”
The system sulked and wrapped its short chubby paws around itself.
Wu Yue immediately shook off her gloom, sprang to her feet with her hands on her knees, and grinned like a puppy spotting a bone. “Handsome System, I missed you so much. So… what’s the earth-shaking good news?”
