Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 42
The pale yellow powder had been wrapped in a clean, large leaf and gave off a gentle herbal fragrance. Inside was a small wooden spatula that had been smoothed and polished.
Shi Lin used the spatula to lift some powder and gently sprinkled it over the still-bleeding wound. The first layer of powder was quickly washed away by the flowing blood, and the expressions of the surrounding beastmen turned serious.
Shi Lin’s face grew tense as well, yet he did not stop. Again and again, he picked up more powder and applied it. Gradually, the pale yellow powder began to settle around the edges of the wound. At last, no new blood flowed from the injury.
The beastmen gasped and broke into cheers, embracing one another in relief.
Some of the powder was set aside for Da Shi, and other beastmen with more serious injuries received the same high-level treatment.
Gratitude filled the eyes of those who looked at Shi Lin and the medicinal powder. These herbs had truly saved lives.
In their hearts, they silently thanked the little female who had given Shi Lin the herbs.
Meanwhile, Wu Yue, who had just finished processing her dried bitter greens, was sulking.
All her hard-earned bitter greens had been purchased by the system for a painfully low price. How could that be justified?
“You damn system, explain this to me. I spent favors, firewood, and sunlight. The whole batch is natural and free of chemicals. Are you telling me this isn’t worth a high price? One point per jin? That’s insulting.”
Wu Yue growled in protest.
The system reclined with legs crossed. “Let’s go through this step by step. Did you create the fire? No. Did you chop the wood? No. Did you make the sun? Of course not. Did you harvest all the bitter greens yourself? Mostly no. So, aside from cheap labor, you contributed nothing. One point is generous. You should be grateful.”
So I am just cheap labor, huh.
Wu Yue stared at the pitiful total on her screen. A little over fifty points. Her heart felt like it had sunk into an icy pool.
“Yue, are you there?” Qing Cao’s voice called from outside the cave, pulling Wu Yue out of her despair.
“Damn system, wait right there. We are not finished. I’ll be back to deal with you.”
She got up and walked out of the cave.
“Yue, the pit you wanted is ready. Sister asked me to bring you over to take a look.” Qing Cao sounded cheerful.
The two of them arrived at the location Wu Yue had chosen for her new home. The once-flat ground now held a pit as deep as a beastman was tall.
A dirt wall stood around the pit. It was slightly shorter than the nearby straw huts, although it rose a bit higher at the center.
Several small children had gathered nearby, chirping and chatting as they observed. The scene was lively.
Only two of Qing Hua’s males were working today. The third had gone hunting to find food for the group.
The area around the pit had been carefully leveled, and a thin layer of white paste had been spread evenly across the surface.
She remembered watching videos of Vietnamese people building homes in the wild. For waterproofing, they would mix termite nests with plant ash and smear the mixture on the walls.
So watching those videos had actually paid off, right? She had ended up using it after crossing into another world.
The system let out a cold laugh. “Host, would you care to explain how that termite nest you found is even remotely similar to the ones in those videos?”
Wu Yue winced. System, must you ruin every moment of pride I have? You’ll give me depression.
The system scoffed. “Even if the world were drowning in depression, you would still float on top. You are a unique bloom in the garden of self-amusement.”
Damn system. I really want to find a way to mute it.
