Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 38
After she put away the foldable chopping board that had just risen to the top of the favorites list, Wu Yue finally turned her attention to the little pile of wilted bitter greens inside the cave.
Life is so exhausting. Life is so bitter. Bitter greens really are bitter.
Humming an off-key tune, Wu Yue began to process the bitter greens into dried vegetables using the method she remembered.
The chopping board had already given her a pleasant surprise. She believed the stone pot would not disappoint either.
In the depths of the Jidi Forest, a hunting team from the Snow Tiger Tribe was running through the jungle. At the front were two snow tiger beastmen in their full beast forms. Behind them followed dozens of strong, muscular half-beastmen warriors.
“Shi Lin, what is that thing strapped to your chest?” A half-beast man ran up beside Shi Lin and poked at the small beast hide pouch hanging from his chest.
In the otherwise monotonous journey, this new topic drew attention. The surrounding warriors quickly gathered around.
“Don’t tell me a little female packed you some snacks,” one of them teased.
Shi Lin looked slightly embarrassed at their joking. He gently touched the pouch.
“It holds rare herbs. I traded for them with the new little female before we left.”
“Herbs!” The warriors around him let out a low chorus of surprise. Their eyes sparkled as they stared at the pouch on his chest.
The two beastmen running in front heard Shi Lin’s words. One of the large white tigers growled in a deep, gravelly voice.
“Are those herbs real? Is the new little female a Wu?”
Everyone turned their heated gazes on Shi Lin. That question was only natural.
Only a Wu would recognize herbs. Ordinary pure humans would not.
Shi Lin answered with respect.
“The little female’s mother was once a apprentice of a Wu. She learned at the Wu’s side. Her mother taught her about herbs.”
He gave a firm nod.
“Captain, you can rest easy. The little female used these herbs when she was injured. In just a moment, the bleeding stopped and there was no swelling. They really worked.”
When the others heard that, their eyes lit up even more. Their stares toward the pouch on Shi Lin’s chest grew intense.
“Brother Shi Lin, give me a bit of that herb. We’re close, aren’t we?”
Another beastman shamelessly leaned over.
Shi Lin scratched his head.
“I can’t share it. The little female didn’t find much. I only managed to trade for a small amount. We will have to use it together.”
“Oh, dear little Shi Lin, you’re so good to us.”
A squeaky, exaggerated voice rang out among the group. Everyone shivered.
“Act normal!”
A loud slap landed on the overly dramatic warrior’s head.
Though the group joked and played around, they never slowed their pace. Soon, they vanished into the jungle.
At the edge of the Jidi Forest, Yuan Lang stood with a deep and unreadable gaze, staring at the two fools in front of him.
“General, let me tell you. I just asked the brothers, and there are plenty of girls around here,” Teng Qian said eagerly, rubbing his hands together. His face was full of anticipation.
“Yes, yes, General. And for strong beast warriors like us, as long as we can handle it, we can have several mates. Heh heh.”
Yuan Lang looked at their lewd faces. He thought to himself that their background in begging had truly shaped their ability to adapt.
“As long as you two are happy,” he said with a meaningful tone.
Neither of the two fools had inherited the memories of their beastman bodies. They still clung to naive expectations about the girls in this world.
Yuan Lang had no intention of telling them the truth.
Reality would teach them what it meant to be human.
