Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 36
Wu Yue looked around at the short straw huts. So, people like her, who had neither status nor notable contributions, were just supposed to live in this kind of shantytown? What kind of refugee status was this?
Unwilling to give up, she asked, “Then what do I need to do to get a cave?”
Qing Cao tugged on Wu Yue’s sleeve. “Yue, you should probably stop thinking about caves. In the Snow Tiger Tribe, only the Wu has ever been a pure human with their own cave.”
Qing Hua nodded. “The Wu once said, if a pure human can bring back three beast cores, then they will qualify to live in a cave.”
Wu Yue’s face collapsed in despair. “Even beastmen and half-beastmen warriors get injured or killed fighting feral beasts. How can pure humans like us possibly manage that? It’s an impossible condition.”
Seeing her look so disappointed, Qing Hua’s normally serious face softened into a faint smile. “Just focus on building yourself a hut. That rule was made by the Wu. No one is exempt from it, not even Aya.”
Qing Cao nodded. “That’s right. Aya lives in one of those middle huts. Unless her mate in the future is a beastman or half-beast, she’ll probably never live in a cave.”
Wu Yue stared up at the sky. As expected, no matter what world you were in, real estate was always king.
Suddenly, an idea came to her. Her eyes lit up as she turned to Qing Hua. “Why are the tribe’s straw huts all so low? Can’t they be built taller?”
Qing Hua’s expression instantly became serious. “Yue, you must remember this. The tribe doesn’t restrict the size of huts, but the height must not exceed a certain limit. If they are too tall and wild or feral beasts break into the tribe, it becomes too dangerous.”
It was true. One must never underestimate the wisdom of survival.
Wu Yue nodded. “So, it means, as long as my hut is the same height as everyone else’s, I can choose any size I want?”
Qing Hua smirked. “Yue, these hut sizes were passed down from our ancestors. Some tribe members have tried making larger ones, but increasing the area makes them easier to collapse.”
Wu Yue chuckled. “My mom once told me about a very special kind of hut. I’m planning to try building one.”
Seeing her determined expression, Qing Hua stopped trying to dissuade her. “All right then. Just tell me when you’re building, and my mates and I will help.”
Wu Yue grinned. “Let’s start tomorrow. Can I choose any spot to build?”
Qing Hua stood and led her to an open area. She pointed at a stone on the ground. “Wherever there’s a stone, that means someone has already claimed it. Anywhere else is free. You can choose as big a spot as you want.”
Wu Yue crouched and picked up a stick. She measured by foot and marked a thirty-square-meter plot next to Qing Hua’s home. “Is this big enough?”
Qing Hua looked at her with surprise, then nodded with a complex expression. “Of course. You can even go bigger. We don’t have many caves, but we have plenty of open space.”
Wu Yue looked out at the land. Sure enough, there were vast areas with no one living there.
“Qing Hua, where do we live during winter?”
Qing Hua looked at her curiously. “In caves, of course. In winter, many starving beasts and feral creatures attack the tribe. Staying in a straw hut would be far too dangerous.”
So in this world, caves really are the best.
