“Host, be more confident. Just remove the word ‘might’.”

Wu Yue remained silent.

She glanced guiltily at the still shaken half-beast. It really had been her morning self who had knocked him out with the smell.

With the half-beast’s testimony, Wu Yue had been immediately declared innocent and released.

Qing Cao returned with her to the cave. Her gaze was hesitant and carried a subtle trace of sympathy.

Wu Yue grew puzzled. “Qing Cao, you’ve been acting strange since earlier. If there’s something you want to say, just say it.”

Qing Cao pressed her lips together. “Yue, do you have any plans for what comes next?”

The question came out of nowhere. Wu Yue was completely confused. “Why are you asking that? Did something happen?”

Qing Cao blinked. “You didn’t know? The group that went to trade for salt is returning soon. This cave belongs to one of the half-beasts. When they come back, you won’t be allowed to stay here.”

Wu Yue was stunned.

What? She had thought this cave would be hers from now on. Now she was being told it was just a temporary shelter?

Seeing her dazed expression, Qing Cao scratched her head. “Maybe I should go back and tell my mother. You could stay in our cave for now.”

She said this nervously. Honestly, her family’s cave was about the same size as this one. It had only felt spacious after her older sister moved out with her mate. If Wu Yue joined them, they would have to squeeze together again.

“Is your family’s cave big?”

Qing Cao gave a sheepish laugh and pointed behind them at Wu Yue’s current small cave. “It’s about the same as this.”

Wu Yue said nothing.

Thinking about how many people were in Qing Cao’s family, she firmly decided to decline. “I’ll figure something out.”

Qing Cao did not press. Her home really was too cramped.

“It’s actually not that hard. Yue, you can ask some males in the tribe to help you build a straw hut.”

Wu Yue’s eyes lit up. “A straw hut?”

Her ideal was still a cave, but having a temporary place to stay would definitely work.

Qing Cao led her to the area where the pure humans lived. It was a whole settlement made up of straw huts.

Each hut was about the same size and roughly as tall as Wu Yue’s waist. They were not very big. While passing one, Wu Yue could even see a bunch of small pure-human kids sprawled out sleeping inside.

After winding through the area, they reached a more open space near the edge of the tribe. Qing Hua was standing outside a row of three connected huts.

Qing Cao pointed at the huts. “This is my sister’s home. She lives here with her mates.”

Qing Hua turned and casually grabbed some dry grass from inside the hut, spreading it on the ground. “Sit down.”

After a few days here, Wu Yue had grown used to the tribe’s casual habit of sitting directly on the floor.

“My little sister already told you, right? About the cave situation.” Qing Hua handed her a shriveled fruit.

Wu Yue nodded. “Yes.”

She looked at Qing Hua. “Why didn’t you choose to live in a cave? These straw huts are so short.”

Given how tall the females were here, they had to bend down just to enter. It was even harder for the males.

Qing Hua paused, then gave a bitter smile. “I don’t qualify to live in a cave.”

Wu Yue was startled. “What?”

Qualify to live in a cave? Since when did someone need certification just to move into one?

Qing Hua patted her arm. “The number of caves in the tribe is limited. Only beastmen, half-beasts, children, or those who make great contributions are allowed to live in them.”

What now? She had no home anymore.
