Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 33
“Ahhhh!!!”
The piercing scream had sent birds and beasts fleeing into the distance. The iron-voiced female ripped the beast hide from her mouth as if it had been a venomous insect. Her wide backside pitched upward, and she collapsed flat on the ground. While wailing in distress, she had retched and vomited uncontrollably.
No one had known what she had eaten that morning, but the smell of it combined with the sweaty stench of the foot-wrapped hide had produced a scent that was uniquely overpowering.
The tribespeople nearby had covered their noses and retreated without hesitation. Their movements had been so quick it looked like someone had pressed a fast-forward button. Within a few steps of her, there had not been a single person remaining.
Wu Yue, ever observant, had noticed something else. The half-beast males who had just been gathered around the iron-voiced female in flattery were now sprinting away in wide strides.
Aya, whose scream had been abruptly silenced, looked awkwardly at her friend who was still retching and crying. She had extended a paw but did not have the courage to move closer.
The smell was overwhelming. Even the half-beasts had not been able to endure it.
Aya’s face had shifted from pale to green to white again. After a moment of awkward stillness, as if struck by a thought, she had turned suddenly to glare at Wu Yue. Her expression twisted in fury.
“It’s all your fault! If you hadn’t slapped that stinking beast hide onto my face, Ye Duo wouldn’t be like this. This is all because of you!”
At that moment, Aya had appeared completely unhinged. Wu Yue had let out a cold laugh.
“I advise you to stay far away from me. If you provoke me again, next time what flies at you won’t be just a piece of beast hide. I’ve put up with you again and again because of the Chief. Do you really think I’m someone you can push around? You’ve targeted me over and over.”
Wu Yue’s small face had gone cold. The sternness in her voice had carried a sharp edge. That intimidating tone had caused the surrounding tribespeople to glance at Aya and the Chief with expressions of unease.
It had been true. Aya had long relied on being the Chief’s daughter to bully the tribe’s elderly and weak, both openly and in secret. Everyone had turned a blind eye out of respect for the Chief’s family.
Now that it had become public, the Chief’s expression had turned grim. He knew very well the kind of behavior his child displayed. He had warned her privately many times, but it had never made a difference. Both he and his mate had felt helpless.
As he watched his daughter’s face flush deep red with shame, he had felt a flicker of clarity. Perhaps this was a good thing. She needed to understand that not every tribe member would tolerate her behavior.
Feeling the weight of the tribespeople’s shifting gazes, Aya’s eyes turned red. Shame crept through her from head to toe.
Why were both her parents beast warriors, but she, their child, was only a weak pure human?
Even her older sisters and brothers had all at least become half-beastmen warriors.
As if possessed by some madness, she stared at Wu Yue with increasing hostility. Years of pent-up frustration seemed to erupt all at once.
She let out a shrill cry and lunged straight at Wu Yue.
Wu Yue had already sensed her emotional shift. As soon as she had noticed the reddened eyes and increasingly savage gaze, she had known something was wrong. She’s about to snap.
Just as she rose from the ground, Aya flew at her like a crazed beast. Her long, untrimmed fingernails gleamed, and the grime packed in the spaces between her fingers was dark and red. One glance was enough to tell that getting scratched by her would not end well.
What would anyone do if someone charged at them?
The natural reaction would be to dodge. Wu Yue dropped low and landed squarely on the unconscious half-beast. She ignored the soft grunt beneath her. By the time she rose again, she was already behind Aya.
Without hesitation, she lifted her foot.
“Ah-da~!” she shouted in a strange cry and kicked Aya squarely on the backside.
