Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 32
Qing Cao, simple-minded as she was, believed it immediately. “Oh, I see.”
“Yes, Father. Maybe it’s because there’s a spy in the tribe.”
The moment that voice rang out, Wu Yue felt an uneasy chill. This troublemaker is targeting me again.
An old saying had proven true time and again. A woman’s sixth sense was so accurate it could even frighten herself. This time was no exception.
“It must be that new female. Nothing like this has ever happened in our tribe before.”
Aya’s voice was thick with disgust. Even the iron-voiced, sweet-sounding female beside her hesitated and glanced toward the Chief.
“Chief, Aya is right. Why don’t we call that female over and ask her directly?”
Wu Yue found it all absurd. When she saw the Chief actually instruct someone to fetch her, she stepped forward herself.
“There’s no need for that. I’m already here. Ask whatever you like.”
Qing Cao followed close behind.
“Chief, Yue went to bathe by the river early this morning. Besides, half-beastmen warriors are incredibly strong. Yue’s body is so weak, she gets hurt just picking wild greens. How could she possibly harm him?”
Wu Yue’s mouth twitched. Dear sister, getting injured from gathering wild vegetables isn’t something you need to bring up. Do I not care about my dignity?
The surrounding females also nodded in agreement.
“That’s right. A delicate little female like her couldn’t possibly harm a powerful half-beastman warrior.”
“Last time Aya went foraging, she kept picking on Wu Yue. I think she’s doing it on purpose again.”
“Ye Duo was helping her, too. Neither of them are any good.”
“Yue’s waist isn’t even as thick as a half-beast’s thigh.”
Their chatter filled the air. Wu Yue looked around and recognized them. They were the same ones who had traded meat with her yesterday.
She smiled at them with gratitude, then turned to the Chief and asked calmly, “What do you think?”
The little female looked thin and frail, as if a single finger could knock her over. Yet her eyes were filled with a firm, steady light. That kind of strength came only from deep within.
“This concerns the safety of the tribe. I will not overlook even the slightest suspicion,” the Chief replied, his voice low.
Aya’s expression lit with satisfaction. Her gaze toward Wu Yue overflowed with malice.
Beside her, Ye Duo appeared worried.
“Yue, did someone from your former tribe force you to do this? If you tell us, we’ll all help you.”
Wu Yue gave the iron-voiced Ye Duo a steady look. I didn’t expect it. Even in the beast world, there are fake white-lotus types with hidden claws.
Without acknowledging the two barking dogs, Wu Yue walked straight over to the unconscious half-beast.
“If it’s really me, wouldn’t waking him up clear things up?”
The Chief frowned.
“We already tried. But he didn’t wake. Maybe the injury is too serious. We were just about to take him to the Wu.”
Wu Yue crouched beside him and reached out to examine the wounds.
Just then, a rough, clawed paw clamped down on her hand.
“You wicked female! What are you trying to do? Are you planning to finish Meng off while he’s unconscious?”
Wu Yue tilted her head and looked at Aya, who had grabbed her wrist.
“You’re hurting me.”
Aya sneered.
“Someone like you, who harms her own tribe, still knows what pain is?”
“Shameless after kindness,” Wu Yue muttered. She yanked the beast hide wrapped around the half-beast’s foot and slapped it directly onto Aya’s face.
A strong, foul odor spread instantly across Aya’s skin.
“Ugh—!”
She gagged uncontrollably and shrieked as she released Wu Yue’s hand. Then she flung the reeking beast hide away from her face in disgust.
