Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 31
“Host, according to this system’s analysis, that fish passed out from the stench coming off your body. Before it dies, I suggest you store it in your inventory.”
The system had practically jumped. That fish meant points.
Wu Yue gave the fat fish a look of disgust. “Forget it. Once I finish washing, I doubt anything in this area will be safe to eat.”
The system let out a creepy little laugh. “Host, did you forget about yesterday’s mission?”
Woo~
Wu Yue’s eyes lit up. She turned her gaze toward the grass carp in the river, a green gleam shining in her eyes. She strode into the water in long strides. “My darlings, here I come. Prepare for a chemical warfare cleanse.”
Compared to just dipping her toe in, fully submerging herself in the water caused a far more dramatic scene. The river’s surface was soon covered in upturned white bellies. It was, in a word, magnificent.
She began scooping the unconscious grass carp into her system space while glancing around nervously, worried that a member of the tribe might appear out of nowhere.
“Host, please hurry. Two fish are about to float away!”
The system was yelling now, sounding more frantic than Wu Yue.
After grabbing the last overturned carp, Wu Yue started scrubbing the dark gray gunk from her body using the dry grass she had brought from the cave.
She spent one point to exchange for a pair of shorts that did not look so hideously tacky. After pulling some vines from the riverbank and tying them in place, she stepped out feeling clean and refreshed as she made her way back toward the tribe.
“Oh no, did a wild beast appear in the tribe?”
She had just reached the edge of the clearing when she saw many people gathered in one spot, chatting and whispering.
“Host, let’s go see what’s happening,” the system encouraged.
Wu Yue was curious as well. She moved to the edge of the crowd and saw that even the chief had arrived.
“Yue, over here.”
Someone tugged on her shorts. It was Qing Cao’s voice.
Pulled to a more open area, Qing Cao frowned at her. “Where were you? I went to your cave and you were not there.”
Wu Yue flicked her still-dripping hair. “I had not bathed in ages. I woke early today, so I went to the river.”
She then looked ahead. “What is going on here?”
Qing Cao furrowed her brow. “It seems the tribe was attacked this morning, but strangely, aside from one patrolling warrior who passed out, no one else was hurt. No food was taken either.”
“Chief, what do you make of this?” an elder beastman asked with a frown.
The chief’s eyes were sharp. “To enter the tribe undetected and knock out a half-beastman warrior without a sound, only a true beastman warrior could pull that off.”
“Uncle Chief, even the strongest beastman warrior should not be able to sneak into our tribe so easily.”
The voice that followed was soft and gentle. It tingled like feathers brushing one’s ears.
Wu Yue reflexively rubbed her ears and then stood on tiptoe to peer into the circle.
“What the hell…”
That was a complete letdown.
So this was what it meant to be disillusioned. She had learned a lesson today. Online crushes needed to be approached with caution. It turned out that sweet, soft voices did not only belong to cute girls. They could also belong to muscular women towering at one meter eighty.
Rubbing her slightly reddened eyes, Wu Yue sighed.
Qing Cao, standing beside her, noticed her expression and leaned over in concern. “Yue, what is wrong?”
She had heard Wu Yue was not in good health. Could she be feeling unwell again?
Wu Yue lowered her hand and patted Qing Cao’s arm. “I am fine. I just saw something that hurt my eyes.”
Qing Cao tilted her head. “Hurt your eyes?”
Wu Yue gave a sheepish laugh. “I mean, I accidentally looked at the sun. It made me want to cry.”
