Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 214
After she finished speaking, the cave became completely silent.
Just as she began to feel confused, the beastman beside her suddenly burst into laughter. Wu Yue turned toward him, clearly displeased. “What are you laughing at?”
Yuan Lang’s deep eyes curved with amusement. It was the first time Wu Yue had ever seen a beastman laugh so openly. For a moment, she stood there in a daze.
As her mildly annoyed gaze settled on him, Yuan Lang felt a wave of warmth surge from his chest and spread through his limbs. His entire body felt a little too hot. He pulled her closer, leaned down until his lips were near her ear, and spoke in a low, magnetic voice tinged with lingering laughter. “The two big rats you saw were actually tigers.”
Wu Yue was speechless.
So, the cave really was that tall?
“Hold on tight. We’re going down now,” Yuan Lang reminded her while adjusting his grip.
Recalling how she had mistaken two tigers for rats, Wu Yue instinctively wrapped her arms around the beastman’s neck. “Be careful.”
Yuan Lang chuckled. “I’ll take that as you worrying about me.”
Wu Yue gave an awkward laugh. “Of course… of course.”
As if she could admit she was actually worried about herself in a moment like this.
Who else could be so ridiculous?
“Why did you come here? Was there a mission from the tribe?”
As soon as Wu Yue asked, she noticed the beastman’s firm jaw twitch slightly.
Her curiosity deepened. Was there something he didn’t want to say?
She was just about to change the subject when the beastman spoke up with obvious distaste. “We came out to chase after you. But when we got to this area, Teng Qian spotted a lone feral beast and ran after it. That fool ended up attracting an entire pack. He said the cave didn’t go very deep. And after he went in, we couldn’t pick up his scent anymore. So, we decided to go inside to hide. But who would have thought…”
He paused, as if recalling something unpleasant. He let out two heavy breaths before continuing. “Who would have thought that fool had stepped on a jutting rock? After Teng Kun and I jumped down, the rock couldn’t bear the weight of all three of us. It collapsed, and we fell.”
Wu Yue tried her best to hold back laughter as she looked up at the beastman’s face. “So, you… pfft. You really got tricked by Teng Qian? Hahaha!”
She could no longer contain herself and burst into laughter.
The pit was both deep and wide. Every sound echoed as if amplified several times. Their conversation reached the ears of the two beastmen waiting at the bottom.
Teng Kun glanced at his elder brother’s resentful expression and could not help but feel delighted.
Wu Yue was not wrong. The trap his elder brother had created was far deeper than the one they had actually fallen into.
At least this pit had a bottom. His elder brother, however, was like a bottomless hole.
Yuan Lang moved with practiced ease. It was obvious that climbing up and down these pit walls was something he had done many times before.
“Is there really no other way out of this cave?”
Wu Yue looked over and asked Yuan Lang.
He furrowed his brows slightly and shook his head. “We’ve searched every corner of this cave, both big and small. There’s no exit.”
After a while, the two of them finally reached the bottom of the pit. The moment Wu Yue lifted her eyes, she saw two massive tigers squatting on the ground.
“Yue, take a good look at this handsome tiger face of mine. How does it look anything like a rat?”
Wu Yue let out a few awkward chuckles. “Maybe it was because we were standing at a height just now. I couldn’t see clearly. I didn’t expect it to be you two.”
The sulky Teng Qian returned to his beastman form and sat cross-legged on the ground. Then he picked up something that resembled a beast core and tossed it at Wu Yue. “Take this!”
