Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 17
Wu Yue nodded seriously. “It’s true.”
Although she did not personally recognize the plant, she firmly believed that anything the system said could not possibly be wrong.
“You must be Yue.” As the two spoke, a strange female suddenly approached them. Her gaze toward Wu Yue was filled with clear disdain.
Wu Yue paused for a quiet moment.
Excuse me, do I even know you?
She stood up and smiled politely at the slightly more delicate-looking female. “Hello, my name is Wu Yue.”
The female let out a cold snort. “A female like you… tsk tsk. If not for that beast core, you would never have qualified to become a member of the great Snow Tiger Tribe.”
Her tone sharpened. “It is one thing that you cannot even gather, but now you are trying to deceive the tribespeople.”
Her words became even more severe. “You are not a Wu, yet you dare to teach others about herbs. That is a disgrace to the great Wu and a blasphemy against the Beast God.”
Perhaps her voice had been too loud. The nearby gatherers turned toward them, and their expressions quickly shifted to suspicion and hostility.
Next to her, Qing Cao still held the blood-stopping herb. Her face revealed clear discomfort.
Wu Yue pressed her lips together. She glanced around at the people surrounding her. Her gaze darkened.
She knew that if she did not speak up now, the accusations of disrespecting the Wu and the Beast God could very well be believed.
In a time like this, bearing such a charge would make her a target. Not only within the Snow Tiger Tribe, but likely across the entire continent, she would have no place to stay.
That thought snapped her mind into clarity. She straightened and looked solemnly at the female who had confronted her.
“It is true that I am not a great Wu, and neither is my Mother. But this blood-stopping herb really can stop bleeding.”
The female’s uneven eyebrows lifted. She opened her mouth to argue, but Wu Yue continued at once.
“My Mother may not be a Wu, but she once studied under one. Everyone in my former tribe knows this. I am willing to swear before the Beast God that every word I just said is true.”
That final sentence startled the surrounding beastmen more than anything else she had said. It also made them begin to believe her.
The Beast God was known for justice and might. If this female named Yue had lied, she would surely have been punished.
Yet she remained standing there, completely unharmed.
The female standing across from Wu Yue looked stunned at first. Then her expression twisted with resentment.
“Since you have sworn before the Beast God, I will let it go this time.”
She turned and walked away, followed by a few other females.
The surrounding tribespeople, seeing that the matter had ended, gradually dispersed and returned to their gathering.
Only Wu Yue, still confused, and Qing Cao, looking slightly embarrassed, remained.
“Qing Cao, who was that female just now?”
Wu Yue tried to recall everything that had happened since her arrival in the Snow Tiger Tribe. Most of her time had been spent recovering in a cave. She was certain she had never met that female before. Still, the hostility had been clear.
Qing Cao felt relieved that Yue was still speaking to her. “That was the chief’s daughter. Yue, did you offend her somehow?”
Wu Yue shook her head. “That’s exactly what I don’t understand. I have never even seen her before.”
She hesitated for a moment before glancing at Qing Cao. “Is she a beastman, too?”
Qing Cao blinked and shook her head. “She’s a pure human. Wu Yue, couldn’t you tell?”
Wu Yue felt a wave of discomfort. She gave a dry laugh. “The tribe I came from only had pure humans. I don’t really know how to tell the difference between beastmen and half-beasts.”
