Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 156
“Awooo!”
“Screee!”
The quiet forest was suddenly shattered by beastly roars. Even Yuan Lang, who had been pummeling Teng Qian, was startled. Those hiding behind the tree and the ones still in the cave all looked up in alarm.
Yuan Lang’s deep voice cut through the dark.
“Teng Qian, you and a few others stay to protect the little female. The rest of you, come with me to investigate.”
The beastmen moved without hesitation.
Wu Yue, wrapped in the snow-white hide, stood at the cave’s mouth.
“Be careful.”
The beastmen all flashed bright smiles. Then they turned to follow Yuan Lang toward the source of the sound.
Wu Yue might not have recognized the call, but the beastmen did. That cry unmistakably belonged to the Eagle Tribe.
The tribes of the Jidi Forest often had their little spats. But when it came to feral beasts, they were united. The beasts were everyone’s enemy.
Especially with the increasingly harsh climate in recent years, which had led to more breeding. The feral beasts were now a serious threat to survival.
So, a pact had formed among the tribes. During hunts in the Jidi Forest, if anyone was attacked by a feral beast, the others would join forces to help.
“Yuan Lang, the tremors are growing stronger. The fight is just ahead.”
The beastmen’s expressions were grim. Compared to land tribes, the Eagle Tribe had the highest survival rate in forest hunts. They could escape danger by taking flight. Flying feral beasts were rare, especially near the forest edge.
And that first cry did not sound like a flying beast’s roar at all.
“Boom!” A loud crash followed by a beastman’s roar echoed through the trees.
A heavy object slammed into the ground and skidded forward. Just as it was about to smash into a tree, a shadow leapt out and caught it.
The injured beastman coughed up several mouthfuls of blood. The iron-rich smell instantly filled the forest.
The Snow Tiger beastmen finally saw the battlefield ahead. It was a pack of horned wolves.
They all gave the Eagle Tribe warriors sympathetic looks.
Horned wolves were some of the most shameless feral beasts. Their special ability allowed them to shoot fire from the horn on their foreheads. That fire could reach quite far.
Just two days ago, a Snow Tiger warrior had been wounded by these creatures.
Horned wolves were also masters of ambush.
Judging by how the Eagle Tribe looked like a bunch of roasted chicks, they had clearly been caught off guard by these underhanded beasts.
“Leave one person to guard him. The rest, follow me. We won’t engage directly. If there’s an opening, we pull out.”
Yuan Lang knew they were outnumbered.
Thankfully, the horned wolves needed time to use their fire.
The Snow Tiger beastmen split into two teams. One stayed behind to harass, the other rushed forward to drag the battered Eagle warriors to safety.
Then, a Snow Tiger warrior came running from afar.
“Yuan Lang, they’re here!”
Yuan Lang grinned with a cunning curve to his lips and transformed instantly.
“Roar!”
All right, boys. Time to retreat.
