Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 148
Then something unexpected happened. The tree ape completely ignored the arrow, which was shorter than its palm. It simply turned and launched another attack.
To Wu Yue’s dismay, the creature even gave a proud little shake of its butt as it turned, flicking the arrow aside with its rear.
It had charged forward with fierce momentum. No one expected it to end in such an absurd, naked display.
Seeing the arrow lying crooked in the grass after being swatted aside by the tree ape’s backside, Wu Yue found it oddly… suggestive.
“Wu Yue, what is this thing?”
Yuan Qi, dodging the tree ape’s attack, happened to land beside the arrow. As he bent down to pick it up, Wu Yue’s expression changed dramatically.
She immediately shouted, “Uncle Yuan Qi, the blackened tip of that arrow is poisoned! When you fight, try to scratch the tree ape with it. That might give us a slim chance to win.”
The beastmen around her were overjoyed by her words. Yuan Qi casually tore off a vine and wrapped it around his hand, then picked up the arrow with the blackened tip and rejoined the battle.
But the arrow was no match for a beastman’s sharp claws. No matter how Yuan Qi slashed at the tree ape, the arrow couldn’t even scratch a single strand of its fur.
“Uncle, aim for its weak spots!”
Wu Yue grew anxious. Her fingers slipped, and the arrow in her hand was suddenly released.
A familiar whistling sound pierced the air. The tree ape had no intention of reacting at first, but as the arrow neared, the fur on its body suddenly bristled.
It was already too late. The sharp arrow pierced straight into its body. The tree ape let out a short, angry roar followed by shrill screams of pain.
The other tree ape, clearly frightened by its companion’s suffering, instinctively backed away several steps. It peeked out from behind a large tree, afraid it might be the next one hit.
Several middle-aged beastmen stood frozen, staring in disbelief at the arrow embedded in the first tree ape’s rear.
They all looked at Wu Yue with complicated expressions.
Yuan Qi suddenly realized. “So, when you said weak spot, you meant its butt.”
Wu Yue said nothing.
No, let me explain! That was totally an accident. My hand slipped, I swear.
Perhaps because the small wooden arrow didn’t appear again, the hesitant tree ape leaped out from behind the tree.
It looked around. Sensing a moment of calm, it shrieked and charged at the middle-aged beastmen again.
Its speed and force made it seem like it planned to grab one of them and run.
The men scrambled to dodge. “Wu Yue, another arrow!”
Wu Yue’s face froze. “That last shot was pure luck.”
Before she could finish, a large, defined hand reached over and took the bow from her.
A deep, magnetic voice spoke near her ear. “Arrow.”
Wu Yue quickly handed over a poisoned arrow. “Be careful. It’s laced with poison.”
The beastman grunted low in acknowledgment. He nocked the arrow and released it in one smooth, practiced motion. The shot was fast and fluid.
The arrow struck. The tree ape let out a blood-curdling scream.
Wu Yue turned and saw the arrow had gone straight into one of the tree ape’s large eyes.
The venom spread quickly across its pupil.
By the time the beastmen reacted, both tree ape had already stopped breathing.
The middle-aged beastmen exchanged glances, a shared feeling of survival passing between them.
The exposed skin of the two dead tree ape had already turned black.
“That poison is terrifying.”
Yuan Lang walked over, holding a few herbs. “It’s the venom from the snake beast that bit the Wild Lion Tribe beastman last time. I collected it for the little female.”
