Wu Yue looked at the middle-aged beastmen with sympathy. The tree ape was a nightmare for all males. Still, they were on the same side. Wu Yue reached for the bottle of poison and gripped it tightly.

“What do we do now?” she asked, her throat tightening.

The tree ape stared at them with blood-red eyes, drooling. Wu Yue felt an ominous sensation. “From their looks, they don’t seem to need mating partners,” Yuan Qi said, his mouth twitching. “It’s more like they want to eat us.”

Wu Yue fell silent. Honestly, she thought the same. The tree ape from yesterday hadn’t drooled this much when it saw the male beastmen.

The next moment shattered their understanding. The tree ape’s blood-red eyes lost their hunger and fixed on Wu Yue with provocation and killing intent.

The beastmen were equally stunned. After a long pause, Yuan Qi found his voice. “Wu Yue, have you offended these tree ape?” he asked.

Wu Yue let out a dry laugh. “Uncle, you think too highly of me. This is our first meeting.”

She gave a bitter smile and muttered, “As the saying goes, why must women make things hard for women? If you have issues, deal with these guys next to me. Why show such hostility toward me?”

The middle-aged beastmen gave her resentful looks. “Little female, as part of the team, you should help draw some of the tree ape’s attention,” one said.

Wu Yue’s smile grew bitter. “This isn’t just a little attention, okay?”

As they spoke, the two tree ape pounded their chests—or whatever those developed muscles were—and roared. They charged toward the group with their sturdy legs. Their behavior was noticeably different toward the males and Wu Yue. They were gentle as a breeze toward the beastmen but a raging storm toward her.

Wu Yue had no doubt that if she fell into their hands, her fate would be far worse than the beastmen’s.

“Host, you have the system and the poison. Don’t hold back, go for it!” The system, dressed in a shiny new suit and polished shoes, bounced on the panel, cheering for its host.

Wu Yue tugged at her lips. “System, I feel like we’re doomed today. Males might get taken for forced mating, but they won’t even bother taking a female like me.”

The system looked puzzled. “Why not?”

Wu Yue gazed wearily at the approaching tree ape. “Have you ever seen a bride-snatcher bring the wife along? They’d just kill me.”

The system paused. I haven’t watched many dramas, but that makes sense.

The two tree ape seemed experienced. They positioned themselves to block all escape routes, determined to claim the beastmen’s bodies and Wu Yue’s life.

“Stingy host, this isn’t the time to lament your bad luck,” the system urged. “Think of a way to escape!”

The system wasn’t ready to die; it still wanted to enjoy its new clothes and snacks.
