Yuan Lang raised his hand to halt the beastmen’s joyous uproar. “Quickly deal with this creature and check if it has a beast core,” he said. “We need to leave this place swiftly. If we attract a large group of tree ape, we will be in serious trouble.”

The beastmen nodded in agreement. They faced the tree ape, which was trapped in the deep pit and covered in wounds. All of them displayed ferocious grins. “You dared to target us?” one beastman growled. “Go to hell.”

Even a formidable creature like the tree ape could not withstand the beastmen’s relentless assault for long. After a short while, it let out a final wail and ceased breathing. Teng Qian let out a hearty laugh and leaped into the pit. “Leave the task of finding the beast core to me,” he declared confidently.

The young beastmen gathered nervously around the pit’s edge. They watched as Teng Qian struggled to flip the tree ape’s body over. His sharp claws pierced its chest, and he rummaged for a moment. When he looked up, his expression was somewhat stiff. Seeing this, a wave of disappointment washed over the beastmen.

“It’s fine,” one beastman said. “It’s not like we find a beast core every time. I heard from Father and the others that they had to hunt many ferocious beasts to obtain a beast core.”

“Exactly,” another added. “We’ve only hunted a few. Once we return and rest, we can fight again.”

As the beastmen encouraged one another, a faint smile spread across Wu Yue’s face.

“Ah ga ga ga ga ga!”

A sudden, outrageously smug laugh erupted from the pit. The beastmen, bewildered, turned their gaze toward Teng Qian. He stood in the pit, his blood-stained right hand triumphantly holding up a white crystal. Wu Yue, who had once possessed such a crystal, recognized it immediately. It was a beast core!

“Little female, do you have any pain-relieving herbs?”

Teng Qian tugged at the corner of his mouth. “It’s because of those shameless beasts,” he grumbled. “They say you shouldn’t hit someone’s face, but they must be jealous of my good looks.”

He muttered with a face full of resentment. Wu Yue remained silent. This swollen-faced guy must have some misunderstanding about himself. Did being good-looking have anything to do with him?

With a helpless shake of her head, Wu Yue stood up and retrieved a few herbs from her basket. “Crush these herbs and squeeze out the juice,” she instructed. “Apply it to the painful areas, and it will feel better soon.”

She pointed at the red and purple marks on his face. “But these marks won’t fade until tomorrow,” she added.
