The beastman’s deep laughter rumbled beside her. His sharp features glowed with joy, and the curve of his lips showed he was in an excellent mood.

“I talked to Father yesterday. The other uncles agreed to let you come with us. But once we are in the forest, you must stay by my side. You are not allowed to wander.”

Her expression suddenly turned dark as she looked at his long fingers. “Did you even wash your hands?”

Yuan Lang’s deep eyes sparkled. He scratched his head and looked embarrassed. “Ah, wash them? I just got back from squatting at the pit.”

He worked hard to hide the little spark of anticipation in his gaze.

Wu Yue had been about to dump the food onto a leaf so this unwashed beastman could eat from that instead. But she caught the flicker in his eyes and gave a cold, knowing laugh.

Yuan Lang, you are way too sneaky. You made up that disgusting excuse just to eat my food. Did you really think I would not notice that tiny flicker of excitement in your eyes?

She tossed a piece of meat into her own mouth and raised an eyebrow proudly as she met the beastman’s disappointed expression. “Trying to fool me, huh? Nice try.”

With a satisfied hum, she carried her little stone pot into the house.

Outside, Yuan Lang licked his still-tasty fingers and shook his head with regret. “Little females these days really are getting harder and harder to trick.”

Meanwhile, inside a cave of the Wild Lion Tribe, a group of beastmen were chattering excitedly.

Suddenly, someone rushed in from outside. “Chief! Something terrible has happened!”

The Wild Lion Tribe’s chief stood up immediately. His face turned stern as he looked at the beastman. “What happened?”

Yesterday, a few beastmen had not returned to the tribe. But that was not unusual. Usually, it meant they had found a female they liked and gone off to mate.

The beastman’s face was grim. “One of our men lured Ye Duo away while she was squatting outside the cave. He just meant to flirt, but it turns out she was already pregnant. They got too excited, and now the cub is gone.”

The chief of the Wild Lion Tribe felt his head spin. “What kind of female fools around while pregnant with a cub?”
