Living in the Beast World With a System - Chapter 126
The system wore a deeply apologetic expression. “Host, I promise I will read the instructions properly next time.”
Wu Yue gave a helpless nod. “I understand. You may step aside now.”
“The host really blooms with just a little bit of sunshine,” the system murmured. But as a guilty and thoroughly useless system, it could only curl up quietly, waiting for its chance to turn things around.
Once the Grand Ritual ended, the grand celebration began. Beastmen from all four tribes had gathered. The massive clearing had become the liveliest place in the entire tribe.
“Big Tiger, what happened with the Wu this time? Why did he hold such a massive ritual? You didn’t even try to talk him out of it?”
The chief of the Wild Lion Tribe spoke with a furrowed brow.
The Snow Tiger Tribe’s chief gave a bitter smile. “How could I possibly change the Wu’s decision? Could any of you do it?”
He grabbed a piece of tender beast meat and bit into it.
The other three chiefs fell silent. It was true. Even the chiefs had no power to change the Wu’s will.
Wu Yue sat beside the bonfire looking glum, holding a stick over the flames to roast her meat.
Qing Cao came running from the center of the clearing, her face flushed with excitement, and sweat clinging to her forehead.
“Yue, what’s wrong? Why do you look like you’re out of energy?”
Wu Yue sluggishly lifted her eyelids. “Maybe I was too excited yesterday and didn’t sleep well. That’s probably why I feel off.”
“Didn’t sleep well?” Qing Cao repeated.
But she clearly remembered that when she burst into Wu Yue’s room this morning, Wu Yue had looked fresh and content, like someone who had just woken from a dream.
“Roar! Roar! Roar! Roar!”
At that moment, deep and thunderous roars came from the beastmen, and Qing Cao’s eyes lit up at once.
She seemed to realize what had truly drained Wu Yue’s energy. Without a second thought, she undid her dry grass skirt and tossed it aside, then flopped right down beside her friend.
“Yue, don’t worry about those males. They all like strong females like Ye Duo. Once you build yourself up, I swear there will be even more males chasing after you than Ye Duo.”
“Heh. I think I’m doing just fine on my own,” Wu Yue said.
Qing Cao giggled. “You won’t think that way once you’ve mated.”
She punctuated it with a ridiculously flirtatious wink.
“That sudden wave of flirtiness nearly gave me a back spasm,” Wu Yue muttered.
Qing Cao shot up in panic. “Yue, did you really hurt your back?!”
Right then, Wu Yue wanted nothing more than to grab anything within reach and shove it into Qing Cao’s big mouth. That shout was so loud the nearby tribe members were now all looking over.
“I thought she looked a little drained today. So, her back gave out, huh.”
“Yue, maybe you should see the Wu. Your back is no joke, it’s really important.”
The female who said that even gave her a meaningful wink.
Wu Yue stayed quiet.
So this is what Yuan Lang must have felt when people spread those rumors about him.
She really wanted to stand up, hands on her hips, and declare, “My back is fine! I could go three hundred rounds without a problem!”
But then she remembered that glimpse she had accidentally caught earlier, when the males were sprinting around naked. That unexpected flash.
She wisely chose to stay silent.
Life is precious. I will shut up.
“Did you hurt your back?”
That familiar beastman voice reached her ears. Wu Yue’s face froze as she quickly shook her head. “I’m perfectly fine. It’s just Qing Cao and her nonsense.”
She turned to keep talking but realized she couldn’t find Qing Cao anywhere.
Yuan Lang sat down next to her. “I just saw Qing Cao leave with a beastman from the Wild Lion Tribe.”
Left… Your buddy’s back is supposedly hurt and you just left with some other beastman?
As for what they went off to do?
Heh.
She had really placed her trust in the wrong person.
