Her head drooped in complete defeat.

“Host, don’t lose heart. Every upgrade comes with a grand gift package waiting for you.”

The System used a tone that sounded like a shady man trying to lure a decent woman into a brothel.

Wu Yue cast a sideways glance. “System, your so-called gift packages have no credibility left with me. Do you even remember that you embezzled my newbie starter pack?”

Before the System could put on a smug act and disappear, she interrupted. “Don’t even try pretending there’s a signal failure or some kind of fake repair needed.”

As she spoke, she reached into a corner and yanked out two pitch-black mystery items, tossing them into a hay nest nearby. “First, hand in my task.”

Wu Yue could clearly feel the System hesitate for a moment.

After a long pause, it finally mumbled, “Sure, the task can be submitted. But don’t tell me this is the legendary dried dandelion vegetable?”

The System’s tiny voice carried an unusual lack of confidence. When it saw the appraisal result, it began to doubt whether its identification program was even working properly.

Wu Yue nodded as if it were the most natural thing in the world. “Of course. Didn’t you scan it? I swear, absolutely honest goods. One hundred percent wild dandelions, sun-dried by hand. You won’t be fooled or lose out.”

The System fell silent.

Well, Host, that was one smooth sales pitch.

“Inner quality is important, yes, but does appearance not matter anymore?”

The System sounded utterly disillusioned. “Host, this charred-looking vegetable will make people think it’s a defective item roasted by fire.”

Wu Yue waved a hand without concern. “Why worry about all that? As long as I can submit the task, it’s fine.”

Last time, the shameless System conned her out of a whole batch of wild bitter herbs. She was not going to fall for the same trick again. That sneaky bastard of a system was definitely hoarding its own secret stash.

Completely unaware that its cover was about to be blown, the System tearfully accepted the two ugly pieces of dried vegetable.

It was obvious that it was not happy about this transaction. Its tiny voice brimmed with frustration.

“Host has completed the task to produce dried dandelion vegetable. Mission reward of 10 points has been credited. Current total is 56 points. Host, keep up the hard work and strive for more achievements.”

In its heart, the System gnawed on a tiny handkerchief.

It waved its tiny handkerchief.

With that, it vanished without another word.
