Novel Info

Wu Yue furrowed her brows in a daze. What was wrong with this hospital? It was so noisy. How was any patient supposed to get proper rest?

The burning pain in her throat made her feel unusually irritable. She had been on an IV drip for two days already, and there was still no improvement. Wasn’t the whole point of the IV to help her recover faster?

She struggled to open her mouth. A sound came out that was barely more than a mosquito’s buzz, hoarse and weak like a groan. “Water…”

The moment the word left her lips, the surrounding clamor swallowed it completely. Not a single person responded.

There were clearly voices all around her, yet no one paid attention to her. Not one person came to check on her condition.

She shifted her eyes with effort and forced herself to open them. She tried to look in the direction of the noise, hoping to call a nurse and ask for a glass of water.

But the sight that met her eyes made her freeze in place.

What she saw was not the clean, comfortable hospital room she remembered. Instead, she found herself in a dim and narrow mountain cave. The walls of the cave looked like they had been roughly smoothed out, but they were still uneven.

She was lying deep inside the cave. Beneath her was not a soft mattress but a thin layer of dry grass. A few scattered tufts of straw covered her body. Other than that, there was nothing to protect her from the cold.

No wonder her whole body felt so chilly, aside from her sore throat.

The mouth of the cave was just a few steps away, which showed how small the space truly was.

The loud voices she had heard came from outside the cave.

A group of men and women with tangled hair and only grass and vines around their waists were shouting at each other. Some were even so worked up they raised their legs while arguing.

Wu Yue silently turned her head away. What the heck… They really are naked under that? What happened to basic decency?

Naked bodies. A grass skirt. A mountain cave.

Could it be that Heaven was showing her a little too much favor?

Her head buzzed. Her mind was a blur. She tilted sideways and passed out again.

Just before losing consciousness, only one thought remained in her mind: This must be a dream.

When she woke up again, she was lying facedown on someone’s bony back.

She was being carried by a man. He was thin, but he walked with surprising steadiness.

The burning pain in her throat had eased considerably. She must have drunk water while unconscious.

“Excuse me… uh!”

She opened her mouth with effort, trying to ask where she was. But just as the words formed, her head suddenly felt like it was being stabbed by thousands of needles.

The stabbing pain made her cry out in agony. It felt like her skull was about to split open.

The man carrying her seemed to sense that something was wrong. He quickly turned around and placed her on the ground. Then he ran to the front of the group in a panic.

“Chief! Yue is having another episode!”

At his shout, a tall, broad-shouldered middle-aged man at the front of the group stopped walking. His thick eyebrows furrowed with frustration, and his face was full of impatience.

“Again? When will it stop?”

He cursed under his breath as he walked over to Wu Yue, who was now writhing on the ground in pain.

Seeing her twitching in agony, the muscular man frowned and turned to the thin man.

“Pick her up and keep moving. We cannot afford to waste any more time. We still need to return to the tribe as soon as possible.”

The thin man shrank his neck and nodded repeatedly. Then he squatted down and lifted Wu Yue, who was still gasping and struggling, onto his shoulder and caught up with the group.

Meanwhile, Wu Yue gradually stopped moving.

[System: Binding successful.]

A mechanical voice echoed in her mind, but Wu Yue, tormented by pain, had already fainted and did not hear it.
