Extra 6 – Remember?

The last zombie was low-grade. Sweet Pepper carefully selected its attack points, stabbing it over a dozen times, then finishing it off with a carrot thorn. “Finally,” it declared, knocking the zombie down.

Outside the area, the other plants immediately sprang into action, hauling away the zombie corpse and piling them together for the Little Bitter Gourds to clean up later.

Once the area was clear, the second wave of zombies arrived.

Qian Hui, no longer afraid, peeked out from behind the Carnivorous Flower, his eyes sparkling with excitement. He seemed to thoroughly enjoy this “game,” watching the plants work together to eliminate the zombies.

The plants were delighted by Qian Hui’s reaction. Sweet Pepper darted over, produced a cookie from who-knows-where, fed it to Qian Hui, and then vanished again.

As five more zombies approached, Lettuce quickly crafted two miniature leaf balls and hung them on Carrot’s sharp thorns.

The thorns flew out, striking the zombies, which inhaled the Bewitching Mist and began attacking each other.

Carrot, having been the main force in the previous round, decided to sit this one out. It turned and nudged Big Pea, urging it to focus.

Big Pea sighed, feeling a wave of nostalgia.

When it had first arrived in this world, separated from everyone, it had never imagined they would ever reunite…

Even more unexpectedly, they had captured zombies and resumed their “work”…

Big Pea also wanted to make things difficult. Since arriving here, they had all become much stronger than before, but its peas couldn’t adjust their attack force as easily as Carrot’s.

It strained and strained, holding its breath for a long moment. Under Carrot’s constant urging, it finally spat out a green pea.

The small, light pea landed near a zombie’s foot, instantly creating a crater and causing the zombie to stumble, its speed slowing.

Big Pea gently spat out another pea, this time striking the zombie’s shoulder and sending it crashing to the ground.

Carrot shook its head. “Forget it, forget it. I’ll handle this. Big Pea, just deliver the final blow.”

The plants’ division of labor was well-organized. Little Mushroom didn’t participate in combat, and Sunflower remained at the rear.

Carnivorous Flower guarded Little Mushroom and Qian Hui, with Cabbage nearby, so it didn’t need to intervene.

Qian Hui sat in his excellent “observation seat,” watching happily for a while. Then he noticed two plants that hadn’t moved at all.

The sun had risen, and Timothy had plucked several of Pomelo’s leaves to use as a bed, where it now slept soundly.

Pomelo still stood quietly in the corner, its branches laden with newly grown pomelo leaves, seemingly asleep as well.

Qian Hui crouched low, slowly approaching with Little Mushroom perched on his shoulder.

Noticing Qian Hui’s approach, the pile of pomelo leaves stirred slightly before settling back into stillness.

Qian Hui carefully parted a few leaves and lowered his head to meet a pair of eyes within.

Pomelo smiled faintly and slowly extended a leafy hand to grasp Qian Hui’s fingertip.

It had always been this way. In the past, before Pomelo developed the Leaf Needles skill for ranged attacks, it always stayed at the back.

With so many plants guarding the front lines, zombies invading the Little Courtyard were usually neutralized halfway through their advance.

Pomelo remembered that Timothy, despite its formidable strength, never lifted a finger, openly shirking its duties. Yet the other plants indulged it without complaint.

After spending some time with Pomelo, Qian Hui moved over to Timothy.

The commotion from the zombie battle was considerable, and Timothy, though feigning sleep, had its eyes slightly open. It glanced up briefly before closing them again, its fluffy tail swaying gently.

Qian Hui couldn’t resist reaching out to touch it, murmuring, “Xiao Mao…”

Timothy remained still, eyes closed, and didn’t resist as it shifted slightly.

Its headscarf had slipped askew. Qian Hui straightened it before quietly stroking the two leaf-like tips that resembled ears.

Sweet Pepper stabbed zombies with its small knife, occasionally running over to feed Qian Hui cookies. After feeding him, it deliberately glanced in Nan Tingjin’s direction, trying to gauge if he had noticed.

Finally, after a full half-hour, all twenty-odd zombies were eliminated.

Carrot raised a carrot thorn and loudly declared victory, “Woo!”

Big Pea echoed the shout, still eager for more. It asked Lettuce if they could go catch some more zombies.

Lettuce was willing, but since the Giant Corpse’s death, the remaining zombies had scattered, none daring to approach.

Sunflower stepped forward from the rear, and Carnivorous Flower quickly led Qian Hui over.

Nut suddenly shrank, moving its body to check for injuries. It seemed unharmed.

But this wasn’t real “work”; it was just to give Qian Hui a taste of the past, so they had to go through the motions.

Sunflower plucked its first petal and handed it to Qian Hui.

Qian Hui reached out and took the warm petal, holding it gently in his palm.

The other plants each received a petal, even Little Mushroom.

Nut, lacking hands, simply swallowed its petal. Pomelo carefully tucked its petal away, planning to take it home. Timothy examined its petal before tucking it into its headscarf.

Qian Hui cradled his petal like a treasure, happily running over to Nan Tingjin to show it off.

Nan Tingjin hummed in acknowledgment, gently smoothing Qian Hui’s slightly disheveled hair. “Tired?”

Qian Hui shook his head, his eyes still sparkling with excitement. If the zombies hadn’t disappeared, he would have stayed there watching for much longer.

Chili Pepper, perched on a nearby rock, pulled a small towel from its backpack. Nan Tingjin took it and wiped the dust from Qian Hui’s cheeks and the back of his hands.

With the “battle” concluded, the Little Bitter Gourds, who had been waiting patiently, moved in to clear away the zombie corpses using their special abilities.

Once everything was tidied up, Four-Leaf Clover drove the modified car to take everyone back to the base.

Inside the base, the plants gathered by the perimeter walls dispersed, hurrying to the entrance to wait.

Since Carrot had chosen a spot just outside the walls, the zombies were clearly visible even without binoculars.

Potato, always eager for fun, had already dragged Corn aside, declaring they would go zombie hunting another day.

Though they had fought plenty of zombies before, their usual attacks seemed no different from the others… but what Carrot and the others had done looked much more entertaining.

Corn rubbed its hands together and immediately agreed. “Woo!”

They had to catch strong ones! It wouldn’t be any fun if they died after just a few hits.

But with just the two of them and Big Cherry, their numbers might not be enough.

Corn twisted its head around, scanning for potential “teammates.”

A few minutes later, the modified car returned to the base. Mango and Little Succulent hung from the Rubber Tree, welcoming the returning Little Mushroom.

Little Mushroom hopped off Qian Hui’s shoulder and ran toward the two plants.

Mango and Little Succulent climbed down from the Rubber Tree. Little Succulent glanced back and whispered to Little Mushroom, “Cabbage is so strong!”

Some plants at the base didn’t participate in any battles, always hiding and being protected, rarely witnessing any tense situations.

Little Succulent had seen Cabbage’s first punch, which had instantly knocked down a zombie.

Mango disagreed. “Woo!”

Little Mushroom is clearly the strongest!

Hearing this, Little Succulent froze, stunned.

Little Mushroom looked puzzled. I don’t think I did anything…

Mango didn’t care about such details. In its mind, Little Mushroom was the most powerful being, because the humans from the neighboring base, and many others from bases far and wide, were all Little Mushroom’s subordinates!

Just as lunchtime arrived, Sweet Pepper and Lettuce accompanied Qian Hui to the dining hall.

Sweet Pepper, clutching its bowl, hurried to sit on the high stool next to Qian Hui, pressing close to him.

It even tried to feed Qian Hui, scooping up a meatball and offering it to him.

Qian Hui glanced at it, then lowered his head and ate.

Sweet Pepper was overjoyed and tried to scoop up a spoonful of rice, but when the other plants saw this, they all wanted to feed Qian Hui too.

The dining table was spacious enough to stand on, and several plants lined up to offer their food to Qian Hui.

Qian Hui graciously tasted everything, taking only a small bite of anything he didn’t like.

He disliked the scallion pancake Cabbage offered, so Cabbage ate the rest himself.

Nan Tingjin watched from the side, not interfering, occasionally clearing away scraps from the table.

The plants’ feeding frenzy didn’t last long. After they gradually dispersed, Nan Tingjin resumed feeding Qian Hui.

During the afternoon nap, the two returned to the small wooden cabin alone.

At such times, including bedtime, Nan Tingjin rarely allowed the plants to join them, usually only one or two days a week. Today was no exception. Sweet Pepper watched the cabin door close tightly as Chili Pepper dragged it away.

Inside the cabin, Nan Tingjin opened the window and moved the sofa closer. He sat down with Qian Hui in his arms, the sunlight streaming through the window bathing them in warmth.

Qian Hui leaned against Nan Tingjin’s chest, gently nibbling at the skin on his neck, his teeth lightly grinding.

Nan Tingjin took Qian Hui’s hand and slowly massaged his slender fingertips and joints. Qian Hui watched quietly, seemingly unaware of what Nan Tingjin was doing.

Nan Tingjin lowered his head and kissed him. “Do you remember?”

Qian Hui thought hard for a moment, then nodded. “Mm.”

He pulled a sunflower petal from his pocket and whispered, “This…”

He remembered this too, along with the “battle” the plants had specially shown him.

Nan Tingjin kissed him again, took his other hand, and continued massaging.

—

Lettuce didn’t take a nap. Instead, it hopped into a Flyer and circled the surrounding area, but couldn’t find any more zombies.

Frustrated, it returned to the base, only to discover the plants had started playing on their own.

Taro and Little Prickly Fruit were draped with wild grass, sticking out their tongues and mimicking zombie walks. Behind them trailed Jasmine, Pineapple, Aloe, and others.

The grassy area had been divided into zones with branches. In the rear, another group of plants launched juice-soaked grass balls as projectiles.

The grass balls didn’t hurt when they hit, but they left orange juice stains. If a plant accumulated more than four stains, it was declared “dead.”

The plants were engrossed in their game. Strawberry charged ahead, trying to bite Rose, but failed to dodge and was quickly hit four times, collapsing to the ground.

Taro followed closely, grabbing Rose’s leaf and licking it several times. Rose tilted its head and fell over, then was dragged away by Apple.

Soft Vine and Morning Glory stood guard nearby, swiftly collecting fallen grass balls and delivering them to the rear for re-soaking in juice.

Qian Hui was also there, having just woken up from a nap. He sat with a glass of fresh juice, watching the plants play with great interest.

Rubber Tree was eager to join in, but its towering height made it unsuitable for the games played by the smaller plants.

Mango happened to pass by, put its hands on its hips, and kicked Rubber Tree, challenging it to a fight. “Woo!”

Rubber Tree shook its head violently and retreated several steps.

Mango curled its lip, touched the freshly redrawn teeth marks on its head, and decided to join the game instead.

It casually plucked a few blades of grass, tied them around itself, and charged into the “battlefield” with a fierce grin.

Another day passed quickly. As dusk fell, the plants escorted Qian Hui back to the Small Wooden Cabin.

Qian Hui crouched down, hugging several reluctant plants before finally returning inside.

The bathroom light was on. Nan Tingjin had already adjusted the water temperature and was taking off his coat as he approached.

He took Qian Hui’s hand. “Time for a bath.”

After spending the day outside and watching the plants play, Qian Hui’s sleeves were stained with juice.

Qian Hui nodded and murmured, “Mm,” following Nan Tingjin to the bathroom.

He was much more cooperative than the previous day, sitting on the towel-lined floor with his head tilted back and eyes closed as Nan Tingjin washed his hair.

Once his hair was clean, Qian Hui turned and threw himself into Nan Tingjin’s arms.

Nan Tingjin steadied him, reminding him, “Sit properly.”

Ignoring the instruction, Qian Hui wriggled in his embrace, immediately dampening Nan Tingjin’s clothes. In a daze, Qian Hui picked up a nearby small towel and wiped the water droplets from Nan Tingjin’s chin, then began unbuttoning his collar.

“What are you doing?” Nan Tingjin didn’t resist, but couldn’t help kissing Qian Hui’s cheek.

Qian Hui mumbled, “You too…”

His earnest gaze held no ulterior motives as he struggled to undo the second button.

After a moment of restraint, Nan Tingjin lifted Qian Hui into his arms.

Kissing him, he asked, “Shall we move to the bathtub?”

Qian Hui nodded. “Mm.”
