Level 1 Little Zombie Doomsday Growth Diary - Chapter 84
Chapter 84
The streets outside the area were dark and crowded, nearly filled to capacity.
Timothy roughly counted at least thirty vehicles.
They’ve brought quite a force…
Timothy’s gaze turned malevolent as it glanced back at Black Ridge Mountain Base.
The base didn’t seem particularly large.
Last time Chili Pepper had contacted it via Communicator, it had mentioned fifty plants in the base, likely including the nine special-grade mutated plants. Timothy wondered if Pomelo had returned.
Of those fifty plants, many probably weren’t fighters. Defending such a large base would be a challenge.
Although Lettuce had come to find them in a sleek-looking small aircraft, Timothy still lacked detailed knowledge of the base’s situation.
Its lingering unease had led it to bring its subordinates to investigate.
Now, seeing the situation, Timothy was grateful it had come—and at precisely the right moment.
Timothy snorted inwardly. With a howl, it prepared to lead its subordinates in a surprise attack.
Their plant numbers were limited, but they could at least eliminate some of the enemy forces.
However, as the plants hiding in the ruins began to emerge, Timothy saw the approaching modified cars suddenly change direction, veering toward the side streets.
Hmm?
Timothy peered out, noticing the human team wasn’t heading for the main gate of Black Ridge Mountain Base. Instead, they were taking a side path that would lead them to the base’s rear.
What’s going on? Why aren’t they coming this way?
At this rate, the team wouldn’t even pass the ambush point where the plants were lying in wait.
As the convoy of modified cars pulled further away, Timothy hurried after them.
The other plants immediately followed, weaving and leaping through the ruins.
Only White Hydrangea remained behind, clutching its small bundle and hiding in a stone hut.
It wasn’t a fighter, and its skills were of little use in combat. However, its meticulous nature and exceptional care for plants had earned it the rare privilege of staying by Timothy’s side.
Hearing the plants’ footsteps fading into the distance, White Hydrangea shrank further into the corner, praying for their safe return.
Meanwhile, inside the Plant Base:
Nine Flyers ascended into the sky, silently concealing themselves within the maze mist, waiting for the opportune moment to strike.
Below, all weapons were prepared. Four Three-Barrel Cannons stood ready along the perimeter walls, while the plants in the attack squad guarded their assigned positions.
Black Ridge Mountain Base had detected the intruders the moment they arrived. The humans made no attempt to conceal their approach, their movements easily visible through binoculars.
Qian Hui stood near the perimeter wall, staying close to Nan Tingjin. After only a few glances through his binoculars, the Carnivorous Flower pulled him away to a safer location in the center of the base.
Many weaker plants had gathered there as well. Little Lotus Root went to help, while the nine Little Bitter Gourds and Brittle Peach huddled together.
Mango desperately wanted to join the fight, but Little Mushroom and Little Succulent clung to it tightly.
Qian Hui sat nearby, scooping up three plants into his arms and opening the Encyclopedia.
All the plants were in excellent condition, their Combat Power at its peak. The only exception was Pomelo, whose energy-charging attack had only recovered to 80%.
Pomelo remained dejected for a while until Carrot coaxed it away. Even if its energy-charging attack was temporarily unavailable, its other skills remained formidable.
The only uncertainty now was the true strength of the incoming Ability Users.
If they all drank the potion, what level of “burst” could they achieve?
But even without Pomelo, the base’s plants, working together and bolstered by various weapons, still had a decent chance of victory.
As for the Black Ridge Mountain Base, Nan Tingjin wasn’t returning for the time being. The base’s Ability Users had ample Mushroom Water, and the nine Flyers stood ready to relocate and provide assistance at any moment.
He flipped through the Encyclopedia repeatedly, still uneasy. Setting the plants in his arms down on the grass, he rose and hurried toward the perimeter wall to assess the situation.
Little Mushroom trailed closely behind, only to be yanked back by Mango.
Along the wall, the plants stood ready for battle. The Giant Carnivorous Flower had climbed over the barrier, its massive form looming outside, flanked by the silent, towering Giant Nuts.
The Nuts swayed slightly, poised to expand to their full size at any moment.
Nan Tingjin stood within the wall, his gaze fixed on the distant horizon.
The invaders were approaching, and the atmosphere grew increasingly tense, the air itself seeming to thicken.
Carrot leaped onto the wall, raising his binoculars.
The lead vehicles were the first to arrive, gradually slowing their pace as they approached within a few hundred meters of the maze mist.
The enemy was cautious, aware of Chili Pepper’s unique abilities and the failure of their previous attacks. They dared not venture too close.
Battle was imminent. Nan Tingjin struck first, fissures erupting beneath the modified cars, forcing them to retreat slightly.
However, they had clearly anticipated his move, halting their retreat after only two meters.
Too far away for Nan Tingjin’s control to be fully effective.
Instantly, a massive, towering protective net sprang up, enveloping all the modified cars and blocking their line of sight.
In the next instant, several fireballs shot out from within the white protective barrier.
It’s starting. Now’s the time.
The Carnivorous Flower roared, and a barrage of carrot thorns pierced through the maze mist, hurtling toward the invaders.
The fireballs collided head-on with the magnetic-blast-enhanced carrot thorns, erupting in a deafening boom.
The Giant Nut lumbered into view, its massive body crushing down the mountain road.
The opposing force had anticipated this, and three new layers of energy shields lit up at the front of their protective barrier.
Qian Hui arrived at the wall just as the deafening explosion shook him. He quickly ran to help the Rubber Tree release the Three-Barrel Cannon’s locking hooks, allowing the long-range attack to launch successfully.
Seeing Qian Hui approach, Nan Tingjin silently pulled him behind him, shielding him.
Boom!
Another deafening blast shook the ground as the Nut slammed directly into the white protective barrier. Yet the barrier remained unyielding, not even a crack appearing in its surface.
Under the Ability Users’ relentless assault, the maze mist had been partially dispersed, revealing a small section of the wall.
The enemy had chosen a cunning position, allowing them to simultaneously attack two bases while the completely opaque protective barrier concealed all their movements.
On the wall, the Carrot remained calm and composed. With a low woo, nine Flyers materialized in the sky, instantly overwhelming the Ability Users’ offensive.
The humans across the battlefield were stunned by the sight.
“…What is that thing?”
In truth, the plants had rarely used Flyers. Moreover, aside from those at Black Ridge Mountain Base, nearly all human ability users who had ever seen a Flyer were now dead.
The sudden appearance of such mechanical weaponry shocked many, leaving them frozen in place.
“It’s just flying. What’s there to be afraid of?”
Over the communicator, one of the operation captains said, “Team One and Team Two, prepare.”
The attacking force consisted of survivors from River-Sea Base and Wen Jue’s remaining subordinates, as well as personnel from other bases who had chosen to side with Wen Jue.
If they could capture the two bases before them, all their problems would be resolved.
The Ability Users in both teams had already taken potions in advance. At the captain’s command, they unleashed their full power simultaneously.
In an instant, a barrage of ranged attacks converged, amplified by Wind-Type Abilities, and slammed into the defense barriers of both bases.
Simultaneously, several Manipulation-Type Ability Users used rubble to trap Nut, hindering its movements.
Bang!
The defense barrier shuddered under the assault, and the maze mist began to dissipate.
Even with Nan Tingjin’s ability to manipulate attacks near the base, the sheer number of Ability Users—at least three times more than the previous two days—meant the volume of attacks was overwhelming, making it impossible to defend both bases simultaneously.
So many Ability Users were essentially like a horde of mutated plants unleashing their berserk skills all at once.
Nan Tingjin’s expression darkened, his brow furrowed as he suppressed the urge to rush outside and eliminate the attackers at close range. He remained steadfastly by Qian Hui’s side.
A sharp crack echoed as several hairline fractures appeared in the defense barrier before Qian Hui. Fortunately, they were quickly repaired.
He retreated a few steps, and with another boom, several massive fireballs bypassed Nut and slammed into the barrier again.
Pomelo, positioned along the wall, trembled, struggling to maintain its composure as it hurled Leaf Needles outward while frantically shoving mana medicine into its mouth.
Only 82%… Too slow. Not enough.
It had already consumed a staggering amount of medicine, yet still needed more time to fully recover.
Qian Hui noticed Pomelo’s distress and swiftly intervened, snatching the medicine from its hand and offering a few words of comfort.
“It’s alright,” he said, giving Pomelo a reassuring hug. “Don’t rush.”
Currently, both sides were relying solely on ranged attacks. Sweet Pepper, Cabbage, and the other plants couldn’t directly assist for now. Big Cherry hadn’t consumed enough bombs in recent days to activate its special ability.
For a moment, the two sides were evenly matched. The opposing forces, simultaneously attacking both bases, showed no signs of faltering.
There are too many Ability Users… At this rate, it was impossible to predict which side would be exhausted first.
Just then, the enemy launched their second wave of attacks.
This time, the concentrated assault was even more devastating, descending like an impending storm from the sky.
The Flyers dodged in time, and Nut, having broken free of its restraints, desperately tried to defend, but it could only intercept a small fraction of the incoming projectiles.
As the overwhelming barrage of ranged attacks threatened to crush the bases, the air suddenly twisted—
Lying on the ground, Nut was closest to the outer perimeter. It watched in disbelief as a fireball froze mid-air for two seconds before being flattened and distorted.
An invisible force forcibly redirected the fireball’s trajectory, slamming it into the ground just before the base.
The remaining attacks suffered the same fate. Explosions erupted in rapid succession, but when the smoke cleared, both bases appeared completely unscathed.
The enemy Ability Users quickly noticed the anomaly. Their captain’s voice crackled through the Communicator, his tone grim. “What’s happening?”
In truth, their own forces were nearing their breaking point. The mutated plants and the Black Ridge Mountain Base were attacking with equal ferocity, forcing both sides to endure the relentless onslaught.
While the potions provided significant aid, their effects were temporary, and the number of defense-type Ability Users was limited. They would inevitably be exhausted.
They had to end this quickly.
But before the captain could finish speaking, a team member shouted in alarm over the Communicator.
“Trouble! New mutated plants!”
Through the protective net on the right flank, more than twenty mutated plants surged over the rubble, charging toward them with loud cries.
They were brightly colored, mostly flower-types, and relatively small.
Baby’s-breath led the charge, launching a barrage of tiny floral thorns. Peony tore off several petals and tossed them into the air. The petals suddenly expanded, swirling into a rotating defense barrier.
The air twisted again. Baby’s-breath’s thorns, originally several meters from the net, inexplicably appeared on the inner side.
Caught off guard, the Ability Users inside were instantly wounded by the thorns.
Ahead, another shadow flickered.
Timothy nimbly leaped onto Nut’s fallen body, facing away from the Plant Base.
With a flick of its tail and a fierce glare, it let out a warning growl: “Woo!”
