Chapter 50

Pea remained frozen, staring blankly at Cabbage.

Had it been injured and hallucinating?

Why did it suddenly feel like it was back in the Plant Little Courtyard…?

Cabbage, Carrot, Nut, Carnivorous Flower…

In the brief moment Pea was distracted, Giant Nut rolled closer, and Carrot leaped to the ground last.

“Woo!” Carrot waved its hand and shouted, signaling the Plant Squad that had descended from the sky with Cabbage to begin their attack.

Giant Nut rolled forward and stood before the Zombie King, forcing it to retreat as various ranged attacks rained down from behind: potato bombs, corn balls, chili pepper seeds, pomegranate seeds, cactus thorns… the barrage was endless.

The Zombie King moved sluggishly, seemingly disoriented by the sudden assault. Several wounds immediately appeared on its body.

Ignoring the injuries, it casually plucked a carrot thorn from its shoulder and crouched down to leap.

Giant Nut also bounced up, its towering height slamming the Zombie King back down from mid-air.

The Zombie King was forced to retreat again, two more wounds appearing on its body.

Meanwhile, Durian had grown larger and was fighting alongside the Giant Carnivorous Flower, using its sharp spikes to repel the zombies.

The new plants were also present, arriving in two groups: one clinging to Carrot’s thorns, the other perched atop Carnivorous Flower’s head, naturally forming two distinct teams.

Nut positioned itself further out, ready to intercept the Zombie King at a moment’s notice.

Watermelon and Pumpkin had grown over ten times their original size. Watermelon bounced around like a massive rubber ball, while Pumpkin’s thick, tough rind made it equivalent to a second medium-sized Nut.

Four-Leaf Clover whipped its head wildly, generating gusts of wind blades. Its jagged leaf edges made it surprisingly formidable in close combat.

Money Tree activated its massive defense barrier, sheltering Tulip and Pothos within its protective field.

Pothos and Tulip were support types. Pothos continuously emitted air waves to slow the surrounding zombies, while Tulip’s fragrant blossoms amplified the attack power of its allies by at least 20%.

Cabbage temporarily guarded Pea, retrieving several spare pills from the gaps between its leaves and stuffing them into Pea’s mouth.

Pea swallowed the pills blankly, finally snapping out of its daze and clinging to Cabbage, whimpering, “Woo woo…”

Cabbage shoved Pea away with a disdainful grunt.

So, it was Big Pea who had been trapped here… who would have thought it would come to this!

Back in the Little Courtyard, Pea had been a mischievous troublemaker, constantly teasing the other plants and getting into fights. It only behaved properly in front of Qian Hui.

Cabbage still remembered how Pea had come to tear off its outer leaves to make a small bed for Qian Hui, leaving it noticeably thinner.

But these were exceptional circumstances, so it wouldn’t hold a grudge now.

Cabbage clenched its fist and scanned the surroundings, its gaze fixed warily on the human team behind it.

Meeting its gaze, Qi Yue retreated silently.

Pea’s earlier burst of stored energy had decimated the Zombie Horde, but the gaps were quickly filled by newly summoned zombies.

The arriving plants were busy slaughtering zombies, and the team was completely surrounded, unable to escape immediately.

Moreover, witnessing the plants’ coordinated defense for the first time left everyone stunned, unable to articulate their feelings.

No wonder so many had died at Black Ridge Mountain. No wonder the Sky Base’s branch had fallen so easily.

Many knew the power of special-grade mutated plants, but even the mid-to-high-grade ones, which they had previously underestimated, could reach extraordinary heights.

When so many mutated plants gathered together… it was beyond imagination.

Realizing the plants had no immediate plans to attack the team, Qi Yue recalled recent events and made a daring decision.

He said through the real-time communication channel, “Focus all efforts on eliminating the zombies. If necessary… assist the mutated plants.”

Qi Yue knew this approach offered the highest chance of survival for his team. Engaging the mutated plants in direct combat, even with the zombies as a distraction, would likely end in defeat.

And… Nan Tingjin’s whereabouts remained unknown.

Had he truly been captured by the mutated plants? Or had he already escaped?

The team members accompanying Qi Yue were his most trusted and experienced, working together with perfect synergy. They quickly grasped his strategy and adjusted their tactics accordingly.

However… assisting the mutated plants in battle was a sudden and unsettling shift. Unaccustomed to this alliance, the team members still instinctively avoided the plants.

Several members tried to flank around the Carnivorous Flower, accidentally brushing past it.

The Giant Carnivorous Flower’s icy gaze swept over them, sending chills down their spines. Fortunately, it didn’t attack, turning away and gliding off.

Earlier, while approaching, Carrot had spotted the humans’ modified cars parked on the outskirts. The vehicles bore no markings of Sky Base.

Since they weren’t from Sky Base, Qian Hui’s instructions were clear: their mission was to save plants and kill zombies. Unless absolutely necessary, they should avoid conflict with human teams.

These humans seemed to understand the situation, refraining from attacking the Plant Squad upon their arrival.

That was enough. They couldn’t expect much more.

Once they dealt with the zombies, they could consider how to handle the human ability users.

Cabbage felt slightly relieved at the sight. After Pea took the medicine and its wounds healed, Cabbage patted its head. “Woo.”

It instructed Pea to stay in a safe, sheltered spot and not wander off. Then, Cabbage turned and charged forward, punching a high-grade zombie that was biting the Carnivorous Flower’s roots to the ground.

Zombies continued to swarm in from all directions, drawn by the Zombie King’s summons. The entire Zombie Horde that had been lurking in the area was converging.

Gradually, Carrot’s squad, the Carnivorous Flower’s squad, and the human teams split into three separate groups. The plants and humans largely ignored each other, yet they fought together against the zombies.

The Zombie King stood before the Giant Nut, slightly hunched over, its chest heaving as if breathing.

Despite its massive size, the Giant Nut moved with surprising agility, always managing to block the Zombie King’s path. Whenever the Zombie King shifted, the Nut rolled after it, crushing hordes of zombies in its wake.

As the plant with the highest defensive capabilities, it had effectively trapped the Zombie King in place with this simple tactic.

However, unlike their previous battle in the forest, the ruined environment offered no support to the plants.

Most importantly, the Zombie King had remained in place throughout the battle, its wounds multiplying and the wind blades seeping from its skin intensifying.

The wind blades swirled incessantly, forming a defensive wall that shielded the Zombie Horde.

The ranged attacks from the plants and human teams were blocked by the wind barrier, while the zombies remained unaffected, creating a temporary stalemate.

From the side, a high-grade zombie lurked, seizing an opportunity to breach the wind wall. It slashed through the defense barrier with its claws and lunged at the nearest team member.

The team member couldn’t dodge in time, and the zombie’s claws were about to tear through their throat when a bamboo blade flew through the air, striking the zombie and drawing blood.

The blade seemed to have been coated with chili pepper extract or a similar irritant. The zombie roared in pain, retracting its hand and stumbling back two steps.

Just then, a fresh wave of carrot thorns rained down, their electromagnetic charges detonating and sending the zombie sprawling to the ground.

A green blur darted forward with lightning speed, severing the zombie’s neck in a single strike.

Little Bamboo Shoot landed gracefully, meeting the team member’s gaze.

It sheathed its blade, nodded curtly, and exuded an air of cold politeness, as if to say, “You’re welcome.”

While the team member stood stunned, Little Bamboo Shoot turned and sprinted away to assist elsewhere.

Carrot unleashed its charged attack, the carrot rain continuing to fall, forcefully neutralizing the wind blades.

Seizing the opportunity, Potato hurled two massive bombs. Corn, having grown larger, spat out a massive glob of jelly.

The jelly was sliced in half by lingering wind blades, but its effectiveness remained undiminished, instantly incapacitating seven or eight zombies.

Seeing Corn use another charged attack, Potato’s face filled with envy.

It grabbed another bomb, took a deep breath, and roared as it hurled the explosive with all its might.

The small bomb pierced the wind wall and suddenly split into dozens of smaller ones, forming a long, firecracker-like chain that detonated in a rapid series of explosions.

Potato froze for a moment, then excitedly grabbed Corn’s hand and shook it, “Woo woo!”

With three plants unleashing consecutive bursts of power, the Zombie Horde suffered even greater casualties.

Having exhausted the nearby zombies, a high-grade zombie turned and roared, asking the Zombie King whether to retreat.

The plants and humans had formed a united front; continuing this battle would only deplete the Zombie Horde.

However, the Zombie King remained silent, its heart burning with hatred as it glared at the Giant Nut before it.

Twice now, these plants had thwarted its plans.

Though Qian Hui and the human ability user weren’t present, killing one or two of these plants would still be a victory.

The Zombie King let out a low growl, ordering all zombies to retreat to a safe distance.

The Zombie Horde ceased its attack, but used the wind wall to trap all the plants and humans.

The Zombie King stood tall, enduring the onslaught of attacks, and strode toward Nut.

It raised its hands and pressed its palms against Nut’s hard shell.

At that moment, Qian Hui received a notification that Potato had acquired the berserk skill.

Standing amidst the ruins, cradling Sunflower in his arms, Qian Hui dismissed the Game Notification and rechecked the plants’ status.

Little Mushroom peeked out from Qian Hui’s coat pocket, cautiously surveying the surroundings.

Little Cabbage, Apple, and Little Succulent remained close to Qian Hui as well, some tucked into his pockets, others hidden in his backpack, all under Nan Tingjin’s protection.

Nan Tingjin stood beside Qian Hui, his gaze sweeping across the landscape. “Where are they?”

Mimosa, clinging to Sunflower’s petals, raised its leaves and pointed.

Not long ago, Qian Hui had separated from the Plant Squad, intending to find a safer place to hide.

He could monitor the Encyclopedia at any time. As long as Carnivorous Flower didn’t use its berserk skill, it meant Nan Tingjin wouldn’t need to intervene.

After waiting with the plants for a while, Mimosa suddenly announced it had detected other scents nearby.

They were human, and the scent lacked any trace of ability… ordinary humans, surrounded by zombies, but only a few.

Ordinary humans?

Qian Hui instinctively thought, That sounds incredibly dangerous.

Mimosa’s abilities had been greatly enhanced. At sufficient range, it could now sense emotions within auras:

Confusion, bewilderment, fear.

Just as Mimosa relayed this information, Qian Hui noticed the progress bar for the hidden mission, “Stealthily approach the Zombie Faction and observe their activities,” suddenly jump to 60%.

Qian Hui frowned slightly, hesitating over what to do.

Should he wait for the Plant Squad to return safely before attempting the hidden mission, or investigate now?

Mimosa had already detected Zombie King 03’s aura. Its presence here meant the mission was undoubtedly related to him. Fortunately, both the king and the Zombie Horde were currently preoccupied by the plants, temporarily unable to move.

Sensing Qian Hui’s hesitation, Nan Tingjin offered, “Want to go? I’ll come with you.”

After a moment’s deliberation, Qian Hui nodded. “Mm.”

Following Mimosa’s guidance, the pair arrived at a low building nearby.

Qian Hui clutched Sunflower tightly, still feeling nervous. “Maybe we should…”

He was leading a group of plants who couldn’t fight, while also protecting Little Mushroom, with only Nan Tingjin by his side.

Though Qian Hui knew Nan Tingjin was incredibly strong, he still felt anxious, fearing he might encounter danger.

Suddenly, before he could finish speaking, three zombies burst out of the low building.

Sensing the approach of unfamiliar scents, they immediately lunged forward.

In the next instant, Nan Tingjin slightly raised his hand. The three zombies were simultaneously flung into the air, their bones cracking as their necks snapped, leaving them lifeless.

Qian Hui opened his mouth to speak, then hesitated, clutching tightly to Nan Tingjin’s sleeve.

After Mimosa confirmed there were no more zombies nearby, Nan Tingjin used his ability again to move the debris piled atop the low building.

The intact half of the structure beneath was forcibly torn open and gradually excavated.

When the three zombies guarding the low building died, the Zombie King immediately sensed it.

The wind blade attempting to slice open the Giant Nut abruptly halted. It released its grip and turned to face the low building’s location.

Realizing something might have happened, the Zombie King’s body trembled with extreme rage.

With a leap, it abandoned the Zombie Horde and fled.

Carrot and Carnivorous Flower exchanged a knowing glance and immediately gave chase.

The Zombie King was heading toward Qian Hui, and the situation felt dire. Moreover, the Zombie King was severely wounded, making this their best chance to eliminate it.

Carnivorous Flower shook off the surrounding zombies, its flower stalk swaying rapidly as it swam forward. Carrot drew its thorn and scooped up the nearest Cactus.

Having already used its charged attack, it wanted a backup for added security.

Before taking off, Carrot let out a “woo,” signaling the Plant Squad to follow, urging them to ignore the remaining Zombie Horde for now.

Pea was still lounging beneath a pile of rubble, kicking its legs, when Cabbage rushed over, panting.

“Woo?” Pea asked curiously.

What’s wrong? Are they going after the Zombie King?

There’s no need to rush, is there? We could deal with the remaining Zombie Horde first.

Cabbage didn’t have time to explain further. “Woo woo!”

Big Pea immediately flipped to its feet, eyes widening.

What?! Hui Bao’s there too?! (t/n: Hui Treasure, Hui Darling, Baby Hui, etc.)

Big Pea shoved Cabbage aside, even more frantic, and sprinted after Carnivorous Flower and Carrot.
