Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 418
The winged beastmen’s calm expressions struck a chord in Ji Nuan’s heart. Her chest tightened with a mix of sorrow for their inevitable sacrifices and deep respect for their selflessness.
Saying nothing more, Ji Nuan turned and walked a few steps away, silently resolving herself to a decision.
“What’s wrong, Nuan Nuan?” Xiu Yan, noticing something off about her demeanor, followed and gently patted her head with his large hand.
Ji Nuan’s eyes were red, and she bit her lip. “I don’t want the beastmen to die because of the powder from Sacred Wood Treant. I can save you, too.”
Xiu Yan smiled. “Don’t overthink it. Even if our wings are frostbitten, I believe you could heal us.”
Ji Nuan gave a bitter smile. “I’m not capable of everything.”
Xiu Yan ruffled her hair gently. “As long as you don’t abandon me after I lose my wings, that’s all that matters.”
Ji Nuan reached for the small backpack at her side, determination flashing in her eyes. “Brother Xiu Yan, I want to develop a medicine, but I’ll need a beastman to help me.”
Xiu Yan frowned slightly. “Does it have to be now? We’re leaving for the mountain tomorrow.”
Ji Nuan nodded firmly. “Yes, it has to be now. The sooner, the better.”
After a moment of silence, Xiu Yan sighed. “Then I’ll do it.”
But Ji Nuan shook her head. “It can’t be you. It has to be a regular beastman.”
Xiu Yan paused, then understood. His body, strengthened by consuming multiple beast god fruits, was far more resilient than other beastmen. Using him as a test subject wouldn’t provide accurate results for the rest of the tribe.
“What are you two talking about?” Ge Xing’s voice interrupted from nearby. Both Ji Nuan and Xiu Yan turned to face him.
Ji Nuan hesitated briefly before speaking. “Uncle, there’s something I need to discuss with you.”
Ge Xing plopped down on a nearby rock with his usual casual demeanor. “Go ahead, what’s on your mind?”
Ji Nuan took a deep breath and explained her plan to develop a new medicine.
Ge Xing’s expression turned serious. “Ji Nuan, can you tell me what this medicine is for?”
Ji Nuan met his gaze with unwavering determination. “I want to use the firefruit to create a medicine that can resist the cold.”
Ge Xing gasped audibly. “That’s impossible, Ji Nuan! Beastmen die from contact with firefruit.”
Ji Nuan shook her head. “Don’t worry, uncle. I’ve already developed a way to neutralize the firefruit’s toxins. No beastman will die.”
Ge Xing’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You’ve really done it?!”
Ji Nuan nodded resolutely. “So, uncle, can you talk to the tribe about this? I don’t want any beastman in our tribe to die. Not a single one.”
Her words weren’t directed at anyone specific, but Xiu Yan, Ge Xing, and the nearby beastmen all knew she was talking about the winged beastmen in particular.
“I’ll do it!” Ying Yan stepped forward decisively. “If this medicine works, we winged beastmen won’t have to lose our wings or our lives anymore. I think it’s only fitting that I be the one to test it.”
Ji Nuan wasn’t worried; she had the antidote ready and was confident nothing would happen to Ying Yan.
She smiled warmly. “Thank you for trusting me. Even if the experiment fails, you’ll be fine.”
Ying Yan chuckled, scratching his head. “I only came forward because I heard you mention there’s an antidote. Hehe!”
