Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 408
She Wu’s eyes reddened at Ji Nuan’s simple yet heartfelt words. Tears threatened to spill as he nodded firmly, feeling a surge of warmth.
Ji Nuan waved her hand. “Go on now. Ya Li, don’t you have an empty courtyard in the back? Give it to She Wu.”
She added with a playful wink, “Uncle just said so!”
With that, she waved them off and headed toward her own courtyard.
Ya Li, Ya Gu, and She Wu exchanged glances, their joy barely contained. In the Watson Tribe, having your own courtyard was the ultimate sign of truly belonging to the tribe.
“Let’s go. We two older brothers will take a lazy day and help our little brother tidy up his new home.”
The three beastmen, arms slung around each other’s shoulders, made their way to She Wu’s new place, laughing all the way.
Back at Ji Nuan’s courtyard, a cool and magnetic voice called out, “Nuan Nuan, where have you been?”
She looked up to see Xiu Yan lounging casually on the steps with a large backpack. His aloof demeanor was as striking as ever.
Smiling, Ji Nuan approached and shared the story about Ya Li and his brothers.
Xiu Yan nodded disinterestedly before lifting the backpack toward her. “These are the toxic plants and fruits you asked me to find.”
Ji Nuan reached out excitedly to take it, but Xiu Yan pulled it away just in time. With a slight frown, he said, “Some of these plants are extremely poisonous. Don’t touch them.”
“I need them for research! How am I supposed to avoid touching them?” she protested.
“Wait a moment.” Xiu Yan reached into his chest and pulled out a small, dark object, holding it out to her.
Ji Nuan took it curiously. “What’s this?”
“Snake shedding,” Xiu Yan said, his gaze darting slightly.
Opening it, Ji Nuan inspected the item. Judging by its patterns, it was indeed snake shedding. “Why are you giving this to me?”
Clearing his throat, Xiu Yan explained, “This is the first shedding of a Black Rock Python. It can block the toxins from these plants.”
“Black Rock Python?” Ji Nuan’s eyes narrowed suspiciously. “Isn’t that the same species as Ya Li and his brothers?”
Xiu Yan nodded carelessly. “Yes.”
Her eyelid twitched. “You didn’t go and mess with Ya Li and his brothers again, did you?”
Looking unrepentant, Xiu Yan huffed, “I didn’t mess with them.”
“I don’t believe you,” Ji Nuan retorted with a roll of her eyes.
Grabbing the small bundle of snake shedding, she turned and headed out.
“Where are you going?” Xiu Yan asked, quickly catching up.
Ji Nuan tugged at his long hair playfully. “To return this! Snake shedding that can resist poison must be very valuable.”
Xiu Yan grabbed her hand to stop her. “Don’t. I already left something even more precious with them in exchange. Even if you return it, they won’t take it back.”
Suspicious, Ji Nuan narrowed her eyes at him. “What could be more precious than this?”
With a small smirk, Xiu Yan puffed out his chest. “Something very, very important to beastmen.”
Ji Nuan chuckled, sensing the truth in his words. While Xiu Yan could be mischievous at times, he never shortchanged his fellow tribespeople.
“Alright, I’ll trust you this time.” She tugged at his arm, leading him back toward the house. “Let’s go. We’ll turn this snake shedding into gloves first.”
Meanwhile, Ya Li and his brothers had initially been devastated at the loss of the snake shedding. However, their despair soon turned into elation as they discovered an even greater surprise waiting for them.
