Xiu Yan stepped forward, picking up the ceramic basin filled with jerky. Looking at Ji Nuan, he said, “Go take a bath. I’ll take care of the rest.”

Ji Nuan nodded with a smile, dusted off her clothes, and headed to her room to grab clean hide garments before making her way to the bathroom.

Xiu Yan placed the jerky in the kitchen for safekeeping, returned to the courtyard to extinguish the fire in the roasting pit, and tidied up the leftover firewood and tools. Once Ji Nuan finished her bath, he went to wash himself as well.

Clean and refreshed, Xiu Yan collapsed onto the bed and quickly fell asleep.

The next morning, the two were awakened by the loud calls of clucking beasts. Well, to be precise, Xiu Yan was woken by the racket. He carefully got out of bed, slipped on his hide shoes, and went to the backyard. With a threatening snarl, he glared at the noisy clucking and quacking beasts, silencing them before they could disturb Ji Nuan further.

Returning to the house, Xiu Yan prepared a fragrant pot of purple fruit porridge. After eating a portion himself, he left the rest simmering in the pot. Then, he packed the jerky Ji Nuan had prepared the previous day into a carrying basket and headed out.

Just as he reached the door, he suddenly turned back and went to the bedroom.

Standing by the bed, Xiu Yan gazed at Ji Nuan, still fast asleep, her face soft and flushed. The memory of her kisses yesterday flooded his mind, and after a brief moment of hesitation, he bent down and planted a light kiss on her rosy cheek.

Savoring the sweet moment, he smacked his lips and bolted out of the house like a beast being chased, his heart pounding.

At the tribe’s city gate, Ge Xing, the chief, and the Watson Tribe’s hunting team were already gathered. Not far away, Luo Ke and his group of beastmen from the Rock Tribe waited as well.

On Luo Ke’s head perched a furry little creature, the small cub, Xiao Zhi, who was reluctantly saying goodbye to Lei Er.

“Xiao Zhi, you better not forget me after you go back!” Lei Er said dramatically.

The little cub nodded enthusiastically. “Chirp chirp chirp~“ I won’t! Will you come visit me?

“Of course! I’ll come see you and bring you some delicious food,” Lei Er promised.

Xiao Zhi’s eyes sparkled. “Chirp chirp chirp~“ Really?

“Absolutely. I’m Lei Er! My word is good. I’ll even learn to make tasty jerky from Ji Nuan and bring it to your tribe.”

Waving its tiny paws, Xiao Zhi’s round eyes were full of encouragement. “Chirp chirp chirp!“ Good luck! I’ll be waiting for your jerky.

The two were happily chatting away, completely ignoring Luo Ke, whose expression had darkened. The wary look he directed at Lei Er was filled with hostility.
