Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 356
When Ji Nuan and Xiu Yan arrived at the pottery house, the bustling crowd of beastmen immediately parted, creating a narrow path for the two of them. They made their way toward the stone where yesterday’s forging had taken place.
Sitting on the stone, the old beastman carefully polished an iron knife, about the length of Ji Nuan’s arm, using a piece of beast hide. Although the knife’s appearance was crude, the beastmen who had witnessed the power of iron tools the day before looked at the weapon with shining eyes full of longing.
Ji Nuan, equally excited, gazed at the iron knife. “It’s incredible that we really managed to make one.”
The old beastman stood up and handed the knife to Ji Nuan. “Shaman, you should be the first to try it.”
Ji Nuan took the iron knife from him, her arms sinking slightly under its weight. With an awkward smile, she said, “I think I’ll need someone else to test this for me. I’m afraid I can’t swing it properly.”
The old beastman nodded in agreement.
Ji Nuan turned and handed the iron knife to Xiu Yan. “Brother Xiu Yan, could you help me test this knife?”
Xiu Yan accepted the knife with one hand and glanced around. “We should go outside. This place is too small.”
The group of beastmen eagerly followed them out into the courtyard. Xiu Yan examined the knife in his hand, skeptical. It looked so thin—could it really be sharper than stone tools?
Ji Nuan pointed toward a row of trees behind the yard. “Let’s go to the back and try chopping a tree.”
The old beastman’s face twitched with distress. Although the knife was powerful enough to cut through meat, using it to chop down trees…
Eventually, everyone followed Ji Nuan to the small forest nearby. Ji Nuan selected a tree with a moderately thick trunk and said, “Let’s try this one.”
The old beastman stepped forward hesitantly. “Isn’t this tree a bit too thick? How about this one instead?” He pointed to a much thinner tree, one not even as thick as Ji Nuan’s leg.
Ji Nuan suppressed a laugh. “Uncle, if we’re going to test it, we might as well choose a challenging one. You could probably break that little tree with one arm.”
The old beastman blushed slightly, chuckling as he stepped aside.
Xiu Yan stepped up, casually swung the iron knife, and struck the large tree with a trunk as wide as a beastman’s embrace.
With a loud clang, the blade sank halfway into the trunk.
“!!!”
Not only were the surrounding beastmen stunned, but even Xiu Yan, who had wielded the knife, was taken aback by its sharpness.
Carefully pulling the blade out of the tree, Xiu Yan couldn’t help but reach out to touch the edge of the knife, gleaming coldly in the sunlight.
Ji Nuan quickly grabbed his arm. “Brother Xiu Yan, don’t touch that side. It’s sharp enough to slice off your fingers if you’re not careful.”
A chill ran down Xiu Yan’s back as he imagined what could have happened if he had carelessly touched the blade.
The old beastman, his eyes alight with excitement, took the knife from Xiu Yan and swung it at the same tree again.
With a crisp crack, the tree toppled to the ground.
“Shaman, this iron tool is truly amazing. We…” The old beastman was so excited that he struggled to finish his sentence.
Ji Nuan glanced at the eager crowd of beastmen behind her and smiled. “Let them try the knife as well. But as usual, no fighting. Everyone takes turns.”
The beastmen, thrilled just to have a chance to hold such a powerful tool, nodded obediently without a single complaint.
