Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 355
The cool morning breeze brushed past, chasing away the last traces of sleep from Ji Nuan. She scratched at her messy hair, which looked like a nest for clucking beasts, and turned toward the kitchen. There, she prepared a pot of thick purple fruit porridge and stir-fried some meat slices. Looking at the pot of sticky porridge, Ji Nuan felt a wave of despair. Though the crisp sweet fruits had been planted, they weren’t yet in season for harvest, and her supply had run out. She sighed in frustration.
From the storage, she grabbed some slightly wilted tender grass she had begged from Ge Ye and the others the day before. Packing it in her basket, she headed toward the feeding pen behind her house.
The clucking beasts and quacking beasts had grown into sturdy adults. The moment Ji Nuan approached, they swarmed her, clucking and quacking loudly with enthusiasm. She hurriedly emptied the grass from the basket into the pen, watching them eat happily.
Sneaking inside, Ji Nuan carefully searched the area until she found two eggs, one large and one small, tucked away in a corner nest. Just as she turned to leave, she was met with the small, shiny black eyes of the clucking and quacking beasts.
At this moment, she felt panic rise. But surprisingly, the birds seemed indifferent to her theft, waddling lazily around the pen, pecking at random. Seizing the opportunity, Ji Nuan fled, her feet moving as if oiled.
Once outside, she let out a long sigh of relief. Her childhood experience of being pecked by chickens at the orphanage had left her with a lingering fear of birds like chickens, ducks, and geese.
Looking toward Xiao Moomoo’s pen, she noticed that the calf was missing. Ji Nuan sighed again, lamenting when the young ox would finally bring home a mate.
Far away, in the Watson Tribe, a young ox was diligently courting a beautiful ox, who paid him no attention. Sneezing suddenly, the calf raised his head toward the direction of Ji Nuan’s home. Was his owner thinking of him? Yet, seeing the ox stubbornly ignoring him, he sighed. Winning her heart would take time.
Back at home, Xiu Yan, Ji Nuan’s wolf companion, slept soundly until the aroma of lunch wafted through the air. He awoke just in time for the meal and, with an impressive leap, landed from the bed onto the floor. Trotting with his short legs, he headed straight for the kitchen, hovering around Ji Nuan.
“You’re up? Go wash up quickly; it’s time to eat,” Ji Nuan said with a chuckle.
Xiu Yan reluctantly wandered off to wash before returning for the meal. Just as they finished eating, a beastman called out from outside the courtyard. Ji Nuan stepped out and saw one of the beastmen who had been forging iron tools the day before.
“Is it ready?” she asked, quickening her pace.
The beastman nodded excitedly. “Yes! It’s a long and beautifully crafted weapon. uncle said we shouldn’t touch it before you arrive.”
“I’ll be there soon,” Ji Nuan replied, smiling.
“Hurry up! We’re all eager to see how powerful it is,” the beastman added before heading back.
Ji Nuan went inside to gather her things but was met with a pitiful stare from Xiu Yan.
“Which beastman was that?” he asked, feigning casualness.
Ji Nuan laughed and pinched his cheek. “The iron tool uncle prepared yesterday is ready. Do you want to come?”
“Of course!” Xiu Yan exclaimed, jumping to his feet. He quickly shoved the remaining food into his mouth and declared, “I’m ready. Let’s go!”
