The nearby beastmen exchanged uneasy glances. They had all tried out the iron tool earlier and knew firsthand how sharp it was. The thought of accidentally touching it made them shiver.

As if struck by the same realization, the tall beastmen started looking at the iron ore with a hint of reverence in their eyes.

Seeing their hesitant and sheepish demeanor, the old beastman grew furious. His eyes widened, and he bellowed, “What are you scared of? It’s not like I’m asking you to catch a blade with your bare hands! Get over here and start working!”

After the old beastman’s outburst, the beastmen obediently shuffled forward like quails, ready to stoke the fires and prepare for smelting the ore.

Ji Nuan finished her roasted meat, stood up, and walked over to the old beastman. “Uncle, I’ll head back now. If the iron tool is ready tomorrow, send someone to call me.”

The old beastman nodded. “Alright, you should get some rest.”

Ji Nuan smiled, turned, and began making her way back to her yard.

But before she could get far, strong arms suddenly wrapped around her, lifting her effortlessly. She found herself sitting steadily on a beastman’s arm.

Recognizing the familiar posture, Ji Nuan couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Brother Xiu Yan, are you trying to scare me to death?”

Xiu Yan’s low, rich laughter rumbled in her ears, causing Ji Nuan to instinctively scratch at them. Ugh, why does his voice have to be so intoxicating?

“I came looking for you as soon as I got back,” Xiu Yan said, his voice tinged with mock grievance. “But a certain little heartless one wasn’t around. Where did you run off to?”

Ji Nuan pouted and replied, “Hah! A certain someone was so worried I’d follow them that they left early in the morning to avoid me, and now they’re asking me where I went?”

The silver wolf beastman was momentarily speechless, his retort stuck in his throat. How did she get so sharp-tongued after just a few days?

“I went to the pottery firing area today,” Ji Nuan said proudly. “We made a very useful iron tool—much sharper than stone tools.”

Xiu Yan chuckled. “Our shaman is truly amazing.”

Flattered by the compliment from the dashing silver wolf, Ji Nuan tilted her chin smugly. “Of course!”

Xiu Yan rubbed his well-defined abs and said, “I just got back, and I’m craving some of your noodles.”

At the mention of noodles, Ji Nuan couldn’t help but laugh as she remembered a certain incident. While Xiu Yan could cook almost anything, noodles were his one exception.

Back when he was still a chubby little silver wolf cub, he had curiously tried to help Ji Nuan make noodles. His tiny body ended up tumbling into the flour, covering himself in powder. After a bath, he looked like a tiny dough ball. Ji Nuan had spent ages cleaning him up, and ever since, the mighty Xiu Yan had developed an irrational fear of flour—or “stinky fruit powder,” as he called it.

Yet despite his aversion, Xiu Yan absolutely loved eating noodles, which Ji Nuan found endlessly amusing.

Hearing Xiu Yan mention noodles, Ji Nuan couldn’t help but laugh so hard her eyes disappeared into crescents. “Alright, let’s hurry back, and I’ll make you some noodles.”

Xiu Yan shot a playful glare at the giggling Ji Nuan, feeling that his mighty, heroic image had been utterly destroyed by that fateful incident with the “stinky fruit powder.”

Back at home, Xiu Yan devoured a steaming pot of noodles with satisfaction. After washing up, he collapsed onto the bed with a “plop” and fell asleep almost instantly.
