Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 348
Ji Nuan nodded and instructed, “You two, tip out the contents of the basins.”
She pointed to the slowly solidifying liquid in the ceramic basins.
One of the beastmen reached out to lift a basin directly, but Ji Nuan quickly stopped him. “Don’t touch it with your hands. Even though it’s starting to solidify, it’s still extremely hot. Go fetch two wooden planks.”
Since the beastmen now used fire for cooking, wooden planks were easy to find in the tribe. After a short while, the beastmen returned with planks that met Ji Nuan’s specifications.
Carefully, the two beastmen maneuvered the ceramic basins onto the wooden planks, then tipped them upside down onto a large stone.
With pained expressions, the two beastmen watched as Ji Nuan shattered the ceramic basins with a stone tool. Using a wooden stick, she carefully pushed the broken ceramic pieces aside, leaving only the solidified black-and-red substance on the stone.
Ji Nuan pointed to the black-and-red lump and crouched down to draw a rectangular shape on the ground. “Try to shape this into this rectangle with your stone tools.”
One of the beastmen studied the drawing, picked up a stone tool, and approached the large rock. Raising his arm, he began striking the lump.
As the beastman worked, the shape of the black-and-red lump gradually changed. Feeling its hardness, the beastman adjusted his force accordingly.
Ji Nuan watched as the beastman hammered away. To her surprise, impurities began flaking off the lump despite it having already melted into liquid form earlier.
“Shaman, it’s getting harder and harder. I’m worried the stone tool won’t hold up,” the beastman said, glancing at the cracks forming in his tool.
Ji Nuan clenched her teeth. “Keep hammering! This time, focus on thinning this side.”
She pointed to one edge of the rectangular shape.
The beastman nodded and resumed hammering with his tool.
Bang!
Eventually, even the prized stone tool from the Rock Tribe—said to be the most durable—broke into several pieces.
But Ji Nuan wasn’t bothered. She gazed at the palm-sized iron slab lying on the stone and smiled, her eyes narrowing in satisfaction.
Taking a piece of beast hide, she wrapped the iron slab and picked it up.
Turning to the waiting beastman, she said, “Now it’s your turn.”
Handing him the slab, she continued, “Find one of the stones you use for sharpening tools and grind down this thinner edge. Just treat it like you’re sharpening a stone tool.”
The beastman scratched his head. “What is this, shaman?”
Ji Nuan gave a mysterious smile. “Just start sharpening it. Once it’s done, you’ll understand.”
The beastman nodded and carried the slab into the nearby workshop where the tribe sharpened their tools. Ji Nuan followed closely, excitement bubbling within her. She could hardly wait to witness the creation of the beast world’s first iron tool.
The beastman’s arm muscles flexed as he alternated between splashing water and grinding the slab. But it was unlike any stone tool he’d worked on before. If it had been a regular stone, it would have been finished long ago. This strange material, however, was exceptionally difficult to grind.
Time ticked by, and by evening, just as the tribe was preparing for dinner, the beastman handed the finished blade to Ji Nuan with trembling arms.
Ji Nuan patted his shoulder with a grin. “Come on, let’s test it out. Since you made it with your own hands, you should be the first to witness its power.”
