Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 341
“Alright, you two get to tilling the soil, and I’ll be off.” Ge Xing waved his hand and turned to leave.
The yard behind Ji Nuan’s house wasn’t small, but for the two rabbit beastmen, it wasn’t particularly large either. In less than half an hour, the two had already tilled the entire area. They broke up the clumps of soil and smoothed the ground. Ji Nuan then transplanted her pitifully crowded corn seedlings into the freshly tilled earth.
With the two beastmen helping, even watering the plants was taken care of, saving Ji Nuan a significant amount of effort.
When Ge Ye and the others arrived, they were surprised to find that the usually late-rising Ji Nuan was already up. Not only that, but the new plants had been planted, and there was no need for their assistance.
Unable to sit idle, Qi Mo and Xiao Pipi went home to fetch their baskets and dragged the reluctant Ge Ye along to the riverside to gather fresh grass for the clucking beasts and quacking beasts to eat.
To thank Tu Yaoyao and her family, Ji Nuan cut a piece of honeycomb, placed it in a ceramic bowl, and gave it to them as a token of gratitude. Yaoyao and her two brothers were overjoyed with the sweet water from the buzzing insects. Hugging the bowl like a treasure, they ran home.
“Moo~” A low ox’s call came from behind the house. Ji Nuan grabbed her basket, filled it with some of the stored forage from the warehouse, and headed to the livestock pen in the backyard.
Xiao Moomoo, hearing Ji Nuan’s footsteps, looked up with its big, expectant eyes, its tail wagging so hard it was almost flying.
Ji Nuan smacked the head of the now-grown-up Xiao Moomoo with feigned annoyance. “Moomoo, you eat so much every day. Aren’t you afraid of getting fat and not having any ox ladies like you?”
Xiao Moomoo continued munching on the grass nonchalantly and glanced at Ji Nuan from the corner of its eye. “Moo~” (Oxen never worry about such things.)
It then turned around, chewing its grass and giving Ji Nuan a look. “Moo~” (See? An Ox this majestic and strong doesn’t need to worry about finding a mate.)
Ji Nuan was speechless. The once-cute and chubby calf had grown into a lazy and indifferent adult Ox.
“Tomorrow, I’ll let you out. There’s a herd of green oxen on the plains within the tribe’s walls. You can see if you can charm yourself a wife,” she said, tossing another handful of grass into the pen before moving on to feed the clucking and quacking beasts.
These little creatures eagerly flocked to her, craning their necks and pecking enthusiastically. Seeing them made Ji Nuan think of the endless supply of eggs, duck eggs, and more little chicks, which filled her with joy.
The next day, Ji Nuan kept her promise and let Xiao Moomoo out. However, the ox just stood at the gate, staring at her with its round, innocent eyes, refusing to move.
After a moment of staring at each other, Ji Nuan seemed to realize something. She quickly went back into the house and retrieved a collar made of woven beast hide and grass vines. She fastened it around Xiao Moomoo’s neck.
Patting its head, she earnestly instructed, “With this collar, no one in the tribe will mistake you for a regular green ox and catch you for meat. Now go. If you can’t find a wife, don’t bother coming back!”
She had expected Xiao Moomoo to look at her with tearful, reluctant eyes. Instead, the ox seemed quite pleased with the collar. After rubbing its neck against it affectionately, it turned and strutted off with exaggerated, jaunty steps.
