Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 313
The mate ceremony for Xiao Pipi and Qi Mo was scheduled to take place in a week, earning the heartfelt blessings of everyone in the tribe.
Xiu Yan lifted his round little head and looked at a group of young females gathered and chatting in the distance. He squinted, pondering whether it was time for him to find a mate too. How had all these formerly single beasts gotten ahead of him?
With a sigh, he pushed at the roasted meat in front of him with his chubby paw. Sigh~ The meat, lovingly grilled by a little female, no longer tasted as good. Perhaps only finding a mate could heal his beastly wounded heart.
“Ji Nuan, little cub, we’re organizing the beastmen to transplant some fruit trees this time. I’ve decided to have Xiu Yan lead the group. What do you think?” Ge Xing asked, looking at Ji Nuan.
Since their migration, the elderly shaman had officially passed the position of shaman to Ji Nuan. She now spent her days happily playing with the cubs and living a leisurely life.
Ji Nuan nodded. “Yes, I’ll go too,” she said firmly.
Ge Xing’s eyebrow twitched. This was exactly what he was afraid of. He quickly tried to dissuade her. “You’re the shaman now. If you leave and someone falls ill…”
Ji Nuan laughed. “Uncle, isn’t grandmother still here? And there’s also Bei Ni. Besides, I want to see if I can find other fruit trees or edible plants on this trip.”
Such a reasonable excuse. I have no grounds to argue with her.
The next day, when Xiu Yan saw Ji Nuan, dressed light and nimble, with her sleeves and pant legs tied up, ready to join his team, his wolfish face darkened. “Why are you here?”
Ji Nuan grinned. “I’m coming with you to see if we can discover new foods.”
Xiu Yan’s eyes darkened slightly. “You promised me last time that you wouldn’t go out again.”
Ji Nuan pouted. “Brother Xiu Yan, don’t twist my words. Last time, I said I wouldn’t go out during the great beast tide. That doesn’t include times after the tide has receded.”
Xiu Yan stubbornly persisted. “Even so, it’s tiring and dangerous along the way.”
Ji Nuan stepped forward and grabbed his large paw, shaking it gently. “Don’t worry! I promise to stick with you the whole time. I won’t go off on my own. If necessary, I’ll let you carry me the entire way.”
Xiu Yan gave her a skeptical look. “Really?”
Sensing his hesitation, Ji Nuan quickly nodded obediently. “Absolutely! Truer than pearls!”
Why does this little female always come up with terms the beasts can’t understand?
In the end, Xiu Yan relented. He knew deep down that stopping this stubborn little female from going was unrealistic. Still, he decided to use this opportunity to set some ground rules for her. Otherwise, her free-spirited nature might lead her anywhere.
The group of beastmen, carrying enough rations for a day, set off to transplant fruit trees.
“Brother Xiu Yan, are we going to look for purple fruit trees and stinky fruit trees first?” Ji Nuan asked sweetly as she sat atop the massive silver wolf.
Xiu Yan nodded his large wolf head. “We’ll gather those two types of trees from nearby first. The purple fruit trees can be planted inside the tribe, but stinky fruit trees will need to be planted outside, in a designated area.”
“Is it because stinky fruit trees attract sharp-toothed beasts?” Ji Nuan asked.
Xiu Yan nodded. “Yes. Where there are sharp-toothed beasts, fang grass will also appear. It’s better not to plant them inside the tribe.”
Ji Nuan’s eyes lit up. Fang grass… She’d been out of stock for a long time.
