Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 257
Ji Nuan walked over, ready to collect the cotton scattered on the ground. However, Xiu Yan quickly dashed ahead, scooping up the soft pile of cotton into his arms.
Ji Nuan chuckled. “Alright, let’s bring it back. I’m going to make something good out of this cotton.”
Xiu Yan followed behind her eagerly, his curiosity getting the better of him. “So, this thing is called cotton?”
Ji Nuan paused for a moment before nodding. “Yes. It’s soft and fluffy, and it looks like a flower. That’s why it’s called cotton.”
Xiu Yan thought to himself, Why does it feel like you’re just making this up?
Back in the tent, Ji Nuan bent down and rummaged through a corner for a while. Finally, she pulled out a thin piece of beast hide. She took it outside, shook off the dust, and nodded with satisfaction. This piece of beast hide would make a perfect soft mat for Ge Ye’s little cub.
“Brother Xiu Yan, are you going hunting later?” Ji Nuan asked, turning to look at him.
Xiu Yan raised an eyebrow. “Yes, it’s always better to have more food.”
Ji Nuan nodded. “When you come back, bring more cotton with you. Lay large leaves inside the carrying baskets, and use two long sticks to pick up the cotton and place it in the baskets. That way, it won’t be uncomfortable to carry.”
She then went back into the tent and returned with a large carrying basket. Grabbing some large leaves from a stone near the tent, she lined the basket with them and handed it to Xiu Yan.
Xiu Yan slung the basket onto his back and nodded. “I’ll head out to hunt now.”
Ji Nuan waved him off with a smile. “Go quickly, and be careful out there.”
She watched as Xiu Yan and a few eagle beastmen flew off into the distance.
Ji Nuan returned to the tent and began working with the cotton. She carefully pulled apart the flower-like fibers, layering them onto one side of the beast hide. Then she folded the beast hide over the cotton and picked up a bone needle, meticulously sewing the edges. After some effort, she patted the finished product—a simple but soft cotton mat.
The cotton mat was incredibly comfortable. Ji Nuan couldn’t stop touching it, admiring her handiwork. However, she sighed with a tinge of regret. “If only I had fabric. Clothes made from fabric would be even softer and more comfortable.”
She shook her head and laughed at herself. “How greedy I’ve become. When I first came to this world, I was eating raw meat. Now I have delicious food and even discovered cotton for warmth, yet I still want more. Truly greedy.”
Standing up, she hugged the cotton mat and walked toward Ge Ye’s tent. She remembered that Ge Ye’s little cub liked to take a nap at noon.
Sure enough, the tent’s flap was open, and inside, Ge Ye and the cub were sprawled out, sound asleep. Song Yu sat outside, sewing a piece of beast hide that looked like it would be a skirt for Ge Ye.
When Song Yu noticed Ji Nuan approaching, he looked surprised and greeted her in a low voice. “Xiao Ye is sleeping. Is something the matter, Ji Nuan?”
Ji Nuan handed him the cotton mat. “I made this mat for the little cub. It’s made from the cotton we found today and has already been sun-dried, so it’s soft and won’t cause discomfort. It’s perfect for the cub to use.”
Song Yu accepted the mat gratefully, running his hands over its soft texture in amazement. “This feels so comfortable!”
Ji Nuan laughed. “Of course! Once the beastmen gather more cotton, we can use it to make clothes for the cold season. They’ll be much warmer.”
