“Teng Kui, Shi Jie refuses to go. What about you? Are you just going to stand by and watch our tribespeople die?” Teng Kui’s face twisted as he spoke.

Xiong Dan stood up from the beast hide he had been sitting on and shook his head. “I love my tribe’s people, but my faith in the Beast God is more important. We are not like the Hyena Tribe. I won’t do such things.” With that, he decisively walked out. It was surprising to see the two most argumentative beastmen sharing the same belief and stance for once.

In the corner of the cave, a small furry cub cautiously poked out its head, disdain written all over its tiny face as it glared at the two seated beastmen.

An old male beastman and an old female—what rotten souls they had.

“What do we do? If the Rock Tribe and the Grizzly Tribe won’t join us, it’s just us two tribes. Do you think the Watson Tribe will let us in?” Sang Guo asked, her face full of worry.

Teng Kui shot her a contemptuous glance. “See? This is why females are useless. Whenever something happens, all they do is cry and complain. It’s so annoying!” After throwing out this harsh remark, he turned and stormed out of the cave, leaving Sang Guo behind, her face dark with anger as she stared at his retreating back.

The tiny furry cub crouched quietly, its little claws nearly going numb from holding still for so long. It wasn’t until Sang Guo finally composed herself and walked out of the cave that the cub relaxed.

As Sang Guo exited, a faint, almost imperceptible white light zipped past her feet. She glanced down curiously but saw nothing. Clicking her tongue in annoyance, she continued toward her tribe’s camp.

Meanwhile, the furry cub scurried toward the forest’s edge. Only after reaching a tall tree did it climb to the top and emit two sharp chirps.

Not long after, Xiu Yan appeared, arms crossed as his wings flapped effortlessly, his cold and striking face clouded with displeasure. Why, oh why, was he stuck carrying this tiny, preening ball of fluff?

The beastman was clearly unhappy. His back was supposed to be reserved for little female cubs, not this insufferably cute creature.

His sharp eyes narrowed, and instead of landing, he reached down to his waist and pulled out a small basket. “Get in,” he commanded flatly.

The furry cub clicked its tongue in response, glaring at Xiu Yan with pure disdain, but it hopped into the basket without a word.

Carrying the cub, Xiu Yan led the way. Both were formidable in combat, and their seamless teamwork allowed them to hunt down several plump beast cubs. Their raid was so successful that they had to make a hasty escape under the furious pursuit of the mother beast.

Back at the Watson Tribe, the furry cub was immediately swept up by Qi Mo, its caretaker. “You must be hungry!” she exclaimed, holding the cub close. “And dirty! Time for a bath!” Her gentle demeanor made Xiu Yan glance wistfully at Ji Nuan, his expression practically dripping with unspoken grievances.

However, the cub didn’t get much time to relax. Before Qi Mo could take it far, Ge Tai called her to the shaman’s tent, where Ge Xing, Ji Nuan, and Xiu Yan were already waiting.

Qi Mo pouted but obediently placed the cub on a beast hide mat before leaving.

The furry cub shifted into its human form and sat cross-legged on the mat. “Teng Kui and Sang Guo plan to enter our tribe with the help of Xiong Dan, but both he and Shi Jie refused them,” the cub explained.

Ge Xing nodded in approval. “Good. Otherwise, those three bowls of purple rice and stir-fried meat would’ve gone to the Hyena Tribe for nothing.”

(Why are you still thinking about those three bowls of food?!)
