Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 251
Feeling frustrated, Ying Da flapped his wings as he flew back toward the tribe. His mind was abuzz with complaints. That Chif Ge Xing is seriously stingy! Sure, I felt bad for eating three whole bowls of their food, but throwing me off that thing they call a wall? Was that really necessary?
Thankfully, I’m an eagle beastman. My little wings can still flap and keep me aloft, or else I’d have been a goner!
Before heading back, Ying Da circled the edge of the forest one last time. The wild beast tide still showed no signs of thinning, the beasts gathering under the trees to avoid the harsh sunlight. This grim sight made his heart sink as he sped up, racing toward the tribal encampment. I didn’t return last night; the tribe must be so worried.
“Ying Da’s back! Ying Da’s back!” His silhouette had barely appeared in the sky above the tribe’s territory when the patrolling beastmen spotted him. Their shouts of joy echoed across the encampment, electrifying everyone.
No wonder they were thrilled—Ying Da was their only eagle beastman. If anything had happened to him, it would’ve been a huge loss.
Ying Da landed in the clearing before the chief’s cave, where the sound of hurried footsteps soon followed. The four chiefs emerged, their faces filled with relief. However, Ying Da noticed with alarm that both Shi Jie and Xiong Dan bore fresh, noticeable injuries.
Did the chiefs fight because I didn’t come back last night? Ying Da wondered, feeling a pang of guilt.
Shi Jie strode forward and clapped Ying Da on the shoulder before spinning him around to inspect him closely. Only after this thorough examination did Shi Jie exhale deeply. “You brat! Where have you been? What took you so long to come back? We thought… we thought something had happened to you!”
Xiong Dan, looking ashamed, added, “It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t asked you to check on the Watson Tribe yesterday, you wouldn’t have been put in danger.”
Sang Guo and Teng Kui, equally relieved, joined in looking Ying Da over as if verifying that he was unharmed.
Scratching the back of his head awkwardly, Ying Da glanced at the gathered crowd of beastmen and whispered, “Chief, let’s talk inside.”
Shi Jie nodded, scanning the crowd. “Alright, everyone, Ying Da is back safe and sound. Go back to your tasks!”
With that, he led Ying Da into the cave, followed by the other leaders.
Inside, they all sat down on beast skin mats. Shi Jie leaned forward and asked, “What happened yesterday? Why didn’t you return?”
Ying Da, moved by their concern, replied, “After I checked on the beast tide in the forest, I went to the plains. As soon as I spotted a wall, the beastmen from Watson knocked me out and brought me to their tribe. I didn’t wake up until nighttime.”
Xiong Dan’s eyes widened in surprise. “You’re saying there are still living beastmen in the Watson Tribe?”
Ying Da nodded earnestly. “Yes, not just living—they haven’t lost a single beastman to the beast tide. Their high, sturdy walls protect their tribe completely. The wild beasts can’t get in. They also have a huge stockpile of food. In fact, their beastmen aren’t craving meat—they’re eating some food called ‘fish’ instead.”
His words carried a tone of longing and envy as he recalled the Watson Tribe’s abundance.
The four chiefs exchanged skeptical glances. Teng Kui frowned and said, “Ying Da, are you sure you weren’t dreaming? If there’s something on the plains that can stop wild beasts, why wouldn’t we know about it?”
Sang Guo nodded in agreement. “Exactly. We’re all running out of food; even our winter stores are nearly gone. If our four big tribes are in this state, how could an upstream tribe have more food than we do?”
