Lei Er stared intently at Ying Da for a long moment, until cold sweat began to form on the eagle beastman’s face. Finally, he turned and walked into a nearby tent.

A short while later, Ge Xing emerged, yawning loudly, his hair a disheveled mess. “What’s going on? It’s so late. Don’t you need sleep? Aren’t you tired?” he grumbled, still trying to smooth down his fur.

Lei Er’s mouth twitched. “This eagle beastman just claimed that Xiong Dan, the chief of the Grizzly Tribe, sent him here to look for you.”

“Hmm?” Ge Xing’s still-sleepy eyes widened in surprise as he glanced at the eagle beastman tied tightly to a tree trunk.

“What does Xiong Dan want with me?” Ge Xing asked.

Looking at the slightly scruffy old beastman before him, Ying Da hesitated. Although suspicion lingered in his eyes, he quickly decided to be truthful after catching sight of the tall, golden-haired beastman standing behind Ge Xing. “Xiong Dan just wanted me to check if the Watson Tribe was still here. He didn’t say anything else.”

Ge Xing nodded, stretched lazily, and turned back toward his tent. “Take him to your tent and let him rest. Give him some food. Let him leave tomorrow.”

Lei Er pointed at the pitiful-looking eagle beastman. “You’re just going to let him go?”

Ge Xing turned back with an annoyed look. “What else do you want me to do? Keep him around? He’s not useful as food, and keeping him would only waste supplies!”

Lei Er thought it over and agreed. Keeping him around would be a waste of food—definitely not worth it!

Ying Da stared in disbelief as the two beastmen openly discussed his “value.” Are you seriously talking about me like this, right in front of me?

The next morning, Ying Da was awakened by a burst of noise. Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the tent flaps, bathing the interior in golden light. Unlike the stillness of the night before, the tribe was lively and bustling during the day.

The sound of chatter, laughter, and various other noises filled the air, giving Ying Da a strange sense of nostalgia. It reminded him of life before the beast tide.

Rubbing his eyes, Ying Da stretched leisurely. It had been a long time since he’d slept so well.

Pushing aside the hide flap, he was immediately greeted by warm sunlight dancing across his face. The tribe was teeming with activity—beastmen moving to and fro, and females busy working at stone pots. For a moment, Ying Da felt disoriented.

How is it that so many tribes have been destroyed by the beast tide, yet this small tribe, which supposedly migrated from upstream and settled on the plains, seems completely unaffected?

“Xiao Ye, Ying Yan and his group caught another wild beast today. We’re working on it now. Go ask Ji Nuan if it can be saved for tomorrow—we’re craving that delicious fish!” A tall beastman approached a round, cheerful-looking female, trying to butter her up.

Before he could finish, a sharp-voiced, round-eyed female beside her shouted in a teasing tone, “Ji Nuan, someone’s being picky! He doesn’t want meat—he wants fish!”

Ying Da watched as the tall beastman’s face immediately changed, as if being chased by a horde of wild beasts. He bolted off in a panic.

From a nearby tent, a pale and petite female with bright, amused eyes emerged, laughing at the scene. “Qi Qi, you’re too mischievous! Look how scared he got! Haha!”

The females gathered by the cooking area burst into laughter, clearly enjoying the moment.

As Ji Nuan glanced around, her gaze landed on the scrawny eagle beastman standing awkwardly near Lei Er’s tent.
