Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 248
Ge Xing hastily swallowed the food in his mouth and waved his hand. “This is from Xiao Pipi, not the tribe’s food!”
Xiu Yan’s eyes filled with even more disdain. “As expected, the rumors were true—Uncle, your shamelessness knows no bounds. Even taking food from a little female!”
Ge Xing:
I can’t catch a break!
He glared at Xiu Yan, who constantly made things difficult for him. “What is it? Speak up! I still have houses to build!”
Xiu Yan pointed to the beastman lying behind him. “When I was out hunting today, I spotted this guy sneaking around on the plains. He was acting suspiciously, so I brought him back. I think he was looking for our tribe.”
Ge Xing’s expression darkened. He quickly walked around Xiu Yan and saw a scrawny eagle beastman lying on the ground with a pained look on his face.
“Why does he look like he’s suffering? Did you fight him?” Ge Xing asked, pointing at the beastman’s face.
Xiu Yan replied with a blank expression, “No. Maybe it hurt a bit when I knocked him out.”
A shiver ran down Ge Xing’s spine. He gave Xiu Yan a horrified look. A bit of pain? The guy’s passed out and looks like he’s in agony. Did you almost break his neck?
Xiu Yan waved his hand impatiently. “You deal with him. I’m heading back.”
Before Ge Xing could say anything else, Xiu Yan turned and jogged off toward his tent. He’d seen the little female cooking earlier and knew his portion would be waiting for him.
Ying Da awoke shivering from a cold that seemed to pierce his bones. His vision, sharp even in the dark of night, allowed him to assess his situation. He realized he’d been captured and brought to a tribe.
Looking down at the thick vines binding him, his mouth twitched. These people really overestimated me, using vines this thick to tie me up.
Around him, he noticed beastmen living in structures that resembled shelters made of dry grass and hides. The soft sound of steady breathing emanated from inside.
“Hey! You’re awake?” A lazy voice startled Ying Da. He turned toward the sound but found that his neck couldn’t tilt far enough to see clearly. The voice seemed to come from above.
“Don’t strain your neck. Be careful not to hurt yourself,” the voice said again. “The chief told me to watch you. Just rest for now. Tomorrow, they’ll interrogate you properly.” The speaker, identified as Lei Er, was lounging on a tree branch, chewing a stalk of dry grass, legs crossed casually.
Ying Da hesitated before asking, “Is this the Watson Tribe?”
Lei Er sat up slightly, his golden eyes narrowing as he peered down at the eagle beastman. “Did you come here looking for the Watson Tribe?”
Ying Da nodded earnestly. In moments like this, honesty seemed the safest option to avoid losing his life.
Lei Er’s eyes narrowed further. “Why are you looking for the Watson Tribe? Who sent you?”
Ying Da answered truthfully, “It was Xiong Dan, the chief of the Grizzly Tribe. He told me to come to the plains and check if the Watson Tribe was still here. He knows the chief of the Watson.”
Lei Er tossed the grass stalk aside and leapt gracefully down from the tree. He approached Ying Da, crouching to scrutinize the thin eagle beastman. “That’s it?” His tone was laden with suspicion.
Ying Da panicked, sensing Lei Er’s doubt. Words spilled from his mouth like beans from a broken bamboo tube. “Yes, really! I’m from the Rock Tribe, but since our four tribes joined forces, and I’m the only eagle beastman, all the scouting missions fall to me.
“Before I left, Xiong Dan told me to check on the Watson Tribe in the plains. Our chief, Shi Jie, even argued with Xiong Dan about it!”
