Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 246
Shi Jie and Teng Kui exchanged bitter smiles and nodded helplessly. What else could they do? Surviving under the current circumstances was already a struggle.
“Chief! Chief! Ying Da is back!” A beastman’s shout echoed from outside the cave. The four chiefs exchanged glances before Shi Jie called out, “Let him come in directly.”
Ying Da, the only eagle beastman in the Rock Tribe, was responsible for daily reconnaissance and monitoring the progress of the beast tide.
The slightly lean beastman entered the cave, nodded in greeting to the four chiefs, and reported, “There’s still no sign of the beast tide retreating. The smaller surrounding tribes seem to have been completely wiped out, as I’ve noticed that the beast tide downstream is starting to gather here.”
This news was like a thunderclap. The four leaders’ faces darkened immediately. “They’re all coming here?” someone asked.
Ying Da nodded. “Yes, the scattered groups of wild beasts in the forest and on the plains are converging in this area.”
Sang Guo’s eyes reddened, tears threatening to fall. “What should we do? Are we really going to die, devoured by these hateful beasts?”
At that moment, Xiong Dan suddenly thought of the Watson Tribe, which was settled on the plains. He lifted his haggard face and looked at Ying Da. “Go eat something first. Once you’ve rested, I want you to head toward the plains and check if there’s still a tribe there.”
Teng Kui turned to him, frowning. “You mean the tribe that migrated from upstream?”
Xiong Dan nodded.
Shi Jie shot him a look. “We can’t even take care of ourselves right now, and you’re worrying about another tribe?”
Xiong Dan’s brows furrowed. “I know the chief of the Watson Tribe, Ge Xing. I’m just asking Ying Da to check. I didn’t say we’d do anything. Why are you so worked up?”
Shi Jie’s face flushed. “Ying Da is a beastman of the Rock Tribe. If something happens to him because of this trip, will you take responsibility?”
Xiong Dan’s expression turned cold. “I understand that you’re upset given the current situation, so I won’t argue with you. But I hope you calm down. If you don’t want Ying Da to go, I won’t insist.”
With that, Xiong Dan turned and walked out of the cave without another word.
Sang Guo and Teng Kui exchanged glances before Sang Guo stood up and followed Xiong Dan outside.
Teng Kui patted Shi Jie on the shoulder. “Everyone’s worried and scared, but we have to stay calm. We’re chiefs, and many of our people are watching us. In a situation like this, the only way to get through this disaster is for our four tribes to stick together.”
Shi Jie’s chest heaved with suppressed emotion before he finally sighed in defeat. His face was etched with bitterness. “When will this beast tide ever end?”
He turned to Ying Da. “Get some rest. Tomorrow at noon, when the wild beasts retreat into the forest, head toward the plains and take a look. Be very careful—we only have one eagle beastman.”
Ying Da took in the chiefs’ tension and struggles, moved by their determination not to give up. He nodded solemnly. “Understood. Don’t worry.”
Shi Jie forced a faint smile. “Alright, go now.”
Ying Da nodded again and left the cave.
Teng Kui clapped Shi Jie on the shoulder. “Come on, let’s go eat something. Only with a full stomach will we have the strength to kill those damned wild beasts. As long as we hold out until they retreat, our tribes will endure.”
