Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 242
Ji Nuan frowned in thought, then covered the pot with its lid and turned to Ge Xing. “Uncle, it seems like we’ll need to take some risks!”
Ge Xing’s eyes lit up, full of anticipation. “Cub, do you have a good idea?”
Ji Nuan smiled and replied, “When near the mountains, live off the mountains; when near the water, live off the water.”
Ge Xing scratched his head in confusion. “What are you talking about? Can we eat mountains and water? Nuan Nuan, have you been so hungry that you’ve gone silly?”
As Ji Nuan picked up the pot of noodles and headed back to the tent, Ge Xing jumped in place behind her, exclaiming, “Hey! Nuan Nuan, can’t you scoop me a little bit of that?”
Ji Nuan glanced at the oversized ceramic bowl Ge Xing was holding, her mouth twitching before decisively turning away. “Uncle, you’d better go enjoy the delicious purple fruit rice and stir-fried meat instead.”
With that giant bowl of yours, if I give you one serving, the rest of us will only get broth.
As the sun set, Ge Xing stood alone, his silhouette tinged with desolation. He looked especially pitiful and helpless.
“You selfish cub! Don’t think I don’t know—you just want to save it all for Xiu Yan, don’t you? Playing favorites, you little female cub! Hmph!” he muttered indignantly.
“Ge Xing! Ge Xing! Where are you? Come back for dinner!” Nai Ma’s sharp voice echoed from afar.
Ge Xing’s tall frame shuddered. A fawning smile spread across his face as he sprinted toward his tent. “Here I am! Just washing this bowl—it got a little dirty!”
Inside her tent, Ji Nuan couldn’t help but twitch her mouth at his antics. Uncle Ge Xing, how can you act so meek yet still have the nerve to scavenge food from others? Better watch your beast legs!
By the third day, Xiu Yan and the injured eagle beastmen had recovered. Ji Nuan finally shared her plan.
In the open square at the center of the Watson Tribe—a space deliberately set aside during construction for events, ceremonies, and meetings—the tribe gathered. Ge Xing, the shaman, and Ji Nuan stood at the front.
Ge Xing raised his hand, signaling the tribe to quiet down. “Today, we’ve gathered to discuss the matter of food.”
Looking at everyone, he continued, “The wild beasts have surrounded the tribe, and we can’t go out to hunt. That’s why we need to figure out a new food source. Now, I’ll let Ji Nuan explain.”
He gestured toward Ji Nuan, who stepped forward and addressed the tribe. “Our food supply is running low, so we need to act quickly to find a new source. Today, I’m going to talk about that place.”
She pointed in a specific direction. Everyone followed her gaze.
“Isn’t that the wall?”
“No, idiot. She must mean outside the wall.”
“But outside the wall is the Ainilu River!”
Listening to the murmurs, Ji Nuan nodded. “You’re all correct. Our new food source will come from the Ainilu River.”
The beastmen were stunned. Ge Xing looked equally shocked. “Nuan Nuan, you’re not suggesting we eat crocodiles and predator fish, are you? Those monstrous fish have eaten so many beastmen! If we eat them, wouldn’t that mean…?”
Wouldn’t that mean we’d be eating beastmen?
At this thought, his face twisted with discomfort.
Ji Nuan rolled her eyes in exasperation. “Uncle, when did I ever say we’d eat crocodiles or predator fish?”
