Xiu Yan’s deep eyes met Ji Nuan’s as he said, “It has to be applied. It hurts for a moment when you apply it, but if you don’t, it will hurt all the time.”

Pain now is fine; endless pain is endless suffering.

Ji Nuan glanced at him, half-amused and half-exasperated. The normally strong and fearless beastman, who always seemed invincible, was now whining about his injuries. She couldn’t help but find it both funny and ridiculous.

Rolling her eyes, she resumed applying the medicine.

Xiu Yan lowered his gaze, watching the little female seriously tending to his wounds. His heart softened at the sight.

After finishing, Ji Nuan tidied the bed inside the tent and looked at the tired beastman. “Rest for a while. I’ll go check on the others. What do you want to eat tonight?”

Xiu Yan paused. He was about to ask for purple fruit rice and stir-fried meat, but seeing the concern on her face, he said instead, “Anything you make, I’ll love.”

Ji Nuan blinked in surprise, giving him a curious look. Where did he learn to talk like that?

Smiling, she replied, “Alright, I’ll make something simple then. Get some rest!”

As the little female left the tent, Xiu Yan watched her silhouette disappear. His heavy eyelids finally gave way, and he sank into a deep sleep, wrapped warmly in the beast hide blanket.

Thanks to its walls, the Watson Tribe successfully kept the beast tide at bay. However, the other tribes in the lower Ainilu Forest weren’t so fortunate.

Smaller tribes were devastated by the tide, their people almost entirely wiped out.

The four larger tribes, united in an alliance, managed to hold their ground by taking advantage of the terrain in the mountains of the Rock Tribe. Despite minimal casualties, they remained locked in a grueling standoff with the vanguard of the beast tide at the mountain base.

Inside the cave of the chief from the Rock Tribe, the atmosphere was grim. The four chiefs sat together, their faces clouded with worry.

“There are so many wild beasts. We can’t just keep holding out like this,” Sang Guo sighed.

Shi Jie, chief of the Rock Tribe, was so stressed that blisters had formed on the corners of his lips. “This beast tide has no end in sight. We’re running out of food, and with the tide blocking us here, we can’t even go out to hunt.”

Teng Kui clenched his fists and slammed them into the ground. “These cursed beasts! They won’t even leave their own kind’s corpses alone. We can’t scavenge a single thing!”

Even Xiong Dan, usually cheerful, wore a solemn expression. “If too many of our people die, we won’t have much of a presence at this year’s Grand Trade Gathering.”

At the mention of the Grand Trade Gathering, the other leaders’ faces grew darker.

The Grand Trade Gathering…

This was a secret among the large tribes in the lower Ainilu Forest.

Meanwhile, back in the Watson Tribe, Ji Nuan was tossing noodles into a pot as she asked Ge Xing, who was crouched nearby with his mouth watering, “How much food do we have left?”

Ge Xing wiped the drool from his mouth and thought for a moment before replying, “Enough for about half a month.”

Ji Nuan’s face tightened. “Then we need to figure out a way to find more food. No one knows how long this beast tide will last. If we’re trapped here without food, we’ll all starve.”

Ge Xing nodded. “I’ve already instructed the beastmen to bring up the corpses of the wild beasts we’ve killed. These cursed beasts are so starved that they won’t even spare their own kind’s corpses.”
