Ji Nuan quickly clamped her hand over her mouth, her wide eyes darting toward Xiu Yan, whose ears twitched constantly as he looked ahead.

The beastman’s expression shifted from initial alertness to suspicion. Suddenly, his face darkened.

Turning abruptly to Ji Nuan and the green ox Moomoo, Xiu Yan shouted, “Nuan Nuan, run! It’s—” His words were cut short as he realized the petite female, who had been standing beside him moments ago, was already mounted on Moomoo, bolting far into the distance.

Watching the trail of dust rising in their wake, Xiu Yan could barely make out the silhouettes of Ji Nuan and the fleeing ox. He gritted his teeth, cursing under his breath, “You cowardly ox! Just you wait. When we’re back, I’ll roast you into skewers!”

With that, he stretched his long legs and broke into a sprint.

The sound of the approaching beast tide grew louder. Xiu Yan risked a glance back, his sharp eyes catching the blood-red irises of the leading predators.

As he ran, his gaze kept darting to the galloping ox ahead, carrying Ji Nuan at a speed that astounded him. That wasn’t an ox—it was a blur of green lightning. Even he was struggling to keep up.

If Moomoo could understand, it would surely roll its eyes in disdain. Slow down? Not a chance! Being slow meant becoming beast chow.

(No worries, as long as I’m faster than him.)

As the trio neared the gates of the Watson Tribe, the once-massive beast tide behind them dwindled to a smaller pack, with many predators veering off toward other tribes. Moomoo skidded to a halt in front of the tribe’s towering walls, panting heavily.

The ox froze.

Where was the gate? Why wasn’t it visible?

With a perplexed expression, Moomoo turned to Ji Nuan, its wide eyes seemingly asking, Where’s the entrance?

Ji Nuan blinked, equally bewildered. “I have no idea! You didn’t even run in the right direction!”

The beastwoman and ox stared at each other, dumbfounded.

When Xiu Yan finally caught up, this was the scene he encountered—a clueless Ji Nuan and an equally baffled Moomoo. Shaking his head, he silently grumbled, What kind of beast raises such an equally muddled ox? Nuan Nuan’s as scatterbrained as her ox.

Unfolding his wings, Xiu Yan surged forward. In one swift motion, he scooped Ji Nuan into one arm and grabbed Moomoo’s hind leg with the other. With an impressive burst of strength, he soared into the air, carrying both human and ox over the wall.

(Look! A flying ox!)

Safely on the ground, Moomoo trembled, hiding its large frame behind Ji Nuan. Despite its massive size, the ox quaked in fear, not even fully obscured by Ji Nuan’s small figure.

“Xiu Yan, I’ll take Moomoo back. You should hurry and inform the others to close the gates!” Ji Nuan said urgently, concern evident in her voice for the tribe members who might still be unaware of the incoming danger.

Xiu Yan patted her head reassuringly. “Got it. Head back quickly. I’ll check if there are any tribe members still outside.”

Ji Nuan nodded and watched him disappear into the distance. Turning, she climbed back onto Moomoo’s back. “Moomoo, thank you for carrying me to safety today. You’re the best ox ever!”

Moomoo’s eyes sparkled as if it understood her praise. Lifting its head proudly, it trotted toward the tribe’s gathering area with a renewed spring in its step.

Meanwhile, Xiu Yan scouted the perimeter. The beast tide hadn’t yet reached the gates. As he descended from the sky, his sudden appearance startled the tribe members, who were unaccustomed to seeing his wings in action.

Ge Xing, the chief of the Watson, approached with an exaggerated pout. He deliberately wiped his muddy paws on Xiu Yan’s pristine hide garments, leaving a conspicuous stain before nodding in mock satisfaction. “Xiu Yan, weren’t you and Nuan Nuan out gathering herbs? Why are you back alone?”
