Time passed quickly, and just as Ge Xing had predicted, wild beasts began appearing sporadically in the lower regions of the Ainilu Forest. Hunters from the four allied tribes were frequently injured or even killed by these ferocious beasts.

Fear gripped all four tribes.

Meanwhile, in the Watson Tribe, the final section of their city wall was completed three days after Xiong Dan’s departure. Towering and imposing, the wall encircled the entire tribe like an unbreakable fortress, providing robust protection for its people.

While wild beasts prowled outside the wall, the tribe members inside were bustling with activity, starting to build houses.

Following Ji Nuan’s blueprints drawn on beast hide, the houses were constructed in an orderly manner. Diligent beastmen had already laid down neat foundations, and batches of green bricks were being fired at a feverish pace.

Beastmen from the Tumang Tribe and the Liangshan Tribe, who were participating in house construction for the first time, were stunned by the entire process, finding it utterly incredible.

The green mud they had previously trampled underfoot without a second thought could be fired into such beautiful bricks. And these small bricks could be used to build such tall walls and sturdy, warm houses. They were in awe of that little female called Ji Nuan. How could someone be so clever?

By noon, large cooking stoves were being set up in the clearing. The females lit fires beneath the stoves, and the beastmen placed massive pots over them. With practiced skill, the females cleaned and diced purple fruits, tossing them into the pots to cook fragrant purple fruit rice.

Then they brought out salted meat preserved before the cold season, washing it thoroughly, and added pickled vegetables alongside chopped fruits used for seasoning.

A generous scoop of grunting beast oil was dropped into a pot to melt. The fragrant oil sizzled as the seasoning fruits were fried, releasing an indescribable spicy aroma that wafted across the clearing. The males working nearby kept sniffing the air, their mouths watering like the Ainilu River during the rainy season.

Next, the cleaned and sliced salted meat was added to the pot, stir-fried until aromatic, followed by the addition of the chopped pickled vegetables. The spicy fragrance was replaced by an even more irresistible mix of sour, spicy, and savory scents.

The hungry beastmen’s eyes practically turned green with envy.

Ya Li, shirtless as he fired bricks, couldn’t hide the glances he kept stealing at the cooking pots. His expression betrayed his longing.

The little milk kitten had long since abandoned her previous infatuation with the handsome beastman. Using her adorably soft and sweet demeanor, she clung to the grandmothers preparing the food, meowing cutely to beg for treats.

The other beastmen working nearby couldn’t take their eyes off the little milk kitten munching happily. Jealousy burned in their gazes as they cast sharp looks at Ya Li, who was equally drooling.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk! The females of the Watson Tribe… How can they cook so well? Should I find myself a female from the Watson Tribe to be my mate too?” One beastman smacked his lips in delight at the thought.

Drawn by the familiar, tantalizing aroma, Ya Li turned his head and spotted Bei Ni, the shaman. The shameless old beastman was holding a ceramic bowl larger than his own face, heaped with glistening purple fruit rice and stir-fried meat. He ate greedily, his mouth coated with oil.

“You’re so old, no female will ever take an interest in you!” Ya Li muttered bitterly, his envy and resentment showing as he jabbed verbal daggers. Yet his gaze remained glued to the bowl of food in Bei Ni’s hands, and he couldn’t stop swallowing.

Bei Ni cast a disdainful glance at his disciple before huffing arrogantly. With a satisfied humph, he turned and strutted toward one of the grandmothers preparing food, a ingratiating grin plastered across his face.
