Xiong Dan’s pupils shrank. “Are you saying the disturbance in the prey this time is caused by the great beast tide?”

Ge Xing stopped in his tracks and looked at him. “Actually, we chose to relocate because of the unusual behavior of the predators upstream in the forest. I didn’t expect the range of the beast tide’s impact to be this vast.”

Xiong Dan had no mood left to catch up with his old friend. He abruptly turned and started heading out of the tribe. “I’ll go back first. I’ll come find you another time—”

Before he could finish, his beast form vanished from Ge Xing’s sight.

Ge Xing paused, a bit stunned. “Didn’t think that old bear could move so fast,” he muttered, before rushing to the shaman’s tent to relay the news about the beast tide.

The downstream tribes in the Ainilu Forest were frantically making preparations for the impending beast tide, while the upstream tribes had already been battered and were on the verge of collapse.

In what used to be the Watson Tribe’s settlement, now home to the Green Mountain Tribe.

“What do we do? What do we do, Father? Are we going to be eaten? Eaten by those hideous beasts? Please save me, I don’t want to die!” Sa Duo’er sobbed uncontrollably, sprawled on the heated brick bed.

Most of her mates had already died defending against the beast tide, leaving only one survivor, who now sat numbly to the side.

Sa Ka’er, her father, looked emaciated, his cheeks sunken, his eyes ringed with shadows, and his lips cracked and peeling. He was nothing but skin and bones, a pitiful sight.

He stared blankly at Sa Duo’er as she wailed, his heart filled with regret. The once sturdy city walls, which they had relied on so much, were now riddled with cracks from the relentless attacks of the beasts. Tribe members standing behind the walls could even see the predators prowling outside.

They lived in constant fear, often waking up in the middle of the night in terror.

Now, they deeply regretted their decision. Why had they been so greedy for the Watson Tribe’s houses and walls, refusing to migrate with them? Was this dire situation a punishment from the Beast God for their greed?

More and more predators gathered, drawn by the scent of beastmen. Starving after the long cold season, they hungrily attacked the already damaged walls.

At first, the beastmen from Green Mountain were terrified. Then, they tried to fight back. Eventually, they became numb, waiting passively for death.

So, when the day finally came—when the predators broke through the walls and entered the tribe—none of them ran or struggled. They simply sat there, blankly watching as the ravenous beasts tore them apart.

The predators rampaged through the settlement, smashing through walls and houses. In no time, the once beautiful settlement was reduced to ruins.

The beasts devoured all the food and beastmen they could find before moving on to their next destination, their eyes still glowing red with hunger.

The greedy members of the Green Mountain Tribe left nothing behind—not even a single bone. They vanished entirely from the continent, their existence erased.

Only a lingering, thick stench of blood remained in the air above the settlement, refusing to dissipate for a long, long time.

On the plains, the Watson Tribe was pooling all its strength to construct the final section of their new city wall. Unlike the previous walls, which were simple structures filled with mud and sand, these new walls were built entirely of green bricks, solid and reliable.

They believed that any beast daring to charge at these walls would end up with its head split open.
