The beastman scratched the back of his head, his square face breaking into a simple, honest smile. “No need for the trouble, Chief Ge Xing. We still have to hunt; otherwise, our tribe will go hungry tonight.”

Ge Xing’s eyes brightened, and he grinned widely. “Alright then, food is definitely more important. Next time, bring your father over to visit our tribe—I’ll treat him to some special ‘food.’”

That dumb bear better not show up, or I’ll beat him so badly his father won’t recognize him.

The beastman nodded and turned to lead his group toward the distant forest.

Ge Xing immediately spun around to the other beastmen, his smile vanishing as he snapped in a stern tone, “What are you laughing at? Get back to work! All of you, always finding excuses to slack off when a beast shows up.”

The young beastmen dispersed quickly, chuckling under their breaths. Ge Xing grumbled inwardly. These cubs are always looking for a chance to laugh at me.

Ji Nuan shook her head with a smile and rode Big Moomoo back toward her tent. Her Big Moomoo was a purebred green ox beast. The tribe members were still amazed every time they saw the obedient Big Moomoo.

Is this docile beast, following Ji Nuan and tirelessly carrying goods, really the same green ox beast capable of goring a beastman’s stomach with its sharp horns?

Ji Nuan’s success in taming and raising Big Moomoo had given the tribe hope and inspiration for raising domesticated beasts.

“Nuan Nuan, I brought back a green ox beast,” Xiu Yan’s voice called from outside the tent. Ji Nuan covered the dough she was kneading with a porcelain bowl, lifted the beast hide curtain, and stepped out.

“How was today’s hunt?” she asked, handing him a clean, damp beast hide.

Xiu Yan wiped his sweat with the hide and pointed to a skinned and butchered green ox beast nearby. “Not bad. I hunted two green ox beasts. I brought half of one back, and the rest was left for the tribe to share.”

With the Watson Tribe collectively building walls and houses, they had reverted to the old system of communal hunting and food distribution.

Ji Nuan smiled. “Let’s make beef noodles for dinner. I already prepared the dough, so I can make noodles.”

Xiu Yan’s eyes lit up, and he immediately picked up the portioned meat at his feet. “I’ll go clean it by the river and cut it into pieces.”

Ji Nuan nodded. She rarely cut meat herself anymore because the stone knives were heavy and unwieldy, leaving her hands sore after use. Ever since Xiu Yan noticed her wincing in pain, he hadn’t allowed her to handle the cutting again.

Once the rainy season ended, Ji Nuan had set up a simple outdoor stove. She placed a pot on the stove, filled it with water, and waited for Xiu Yan to finish preparing the meat. When he returned, he chopped the green ox beast meat into chunks, which she blanched in the boiling water before transferring it to a basin.

Ji Nuan diced some pre-selected seasoning fruits and tossed them into the hot oil in the pan. The aroma of sizzling spices filled the air, drawing audible gulps from nearby beastmen. She then added the blanched meat back to the pan and continued stir-frying until the rich, spicy fragrance spread throughout the area.

Once the meat was cooked, she set it aside in a basin and cleaned the pot. Bringing fresh water to a boil, she added the hand-pulled noodles. After letting them simmer for a while, she stirred in the savory stir-fried meat, along with some sour fruit and a pinch of salt. The result was a pot of mouthwatering, flavorful noodles.

Xiu Yan had already grabbed two large porcelain bowls and squatted nearby, drooling in anticipation. As soon as Ji Nuan signaled the noodles were ready, he rushed forward to remove the pot from the stove and placed it on the nearby table.

First, he filled a bowl for Ji Nuan and handed it to her, then he filled his own bowl to the brim. Sitting on a stone, he began slurping the noodles with gusto.
