Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 228
“Ha! Ke Sen, what did you guys hunt today?” called out a beastman building the settlement’s walls to another group returning from a hunt.
Ke Sen pouted. “We almost got a green ox beast, but Xiu Yan beat us to it.”
His face was full of mock frustration.
The nearby beastmen burst into laughter. “Ke Sen, trying to compete with Xiu Yan for prey? Were you asking for a beating? Didn’t he punch you?”
Ke Sen grinned, showing off his large white teeth. “Nope! I spotted a yellow goat beast and ran off to catch that instead!”
The group of beastmen collectively let out teasing “boos.”
Ji Nuan was riding her beloved Xiao Moomoo… or rather, Big Moomoo now. The docile Big Moomoo strolled leisurely nearby, happily munching on fresh grass, her large round eyes full of joy.
Big Moomoo clearly loved this place—so much tasty grass!
Ji Nuan carried a small backpack on her back, filled with a few saplings she had dug up. She planned to plant them in her vegetable garden at home.
“Roar!” A beastman’s warning cry rang out. Ji Nuan quickly patted Big Moomoo’s head. “Big Moomoo, something’s happening in the tribe. Let’s go back quickly.”
Reluctantly, Big Moomoo stretched her neck to snatch one last tuft of fresh grass before galloping back toward the settlement.
Ji Nuan hadn’t wandered far, so it didn’t take long for her to reach the tribe’s entrance. There, she saw a group of unfamiliar beastmen confronting Chief Ge Xing and the others.
The group of strangers numbered about twenty. Their leader had bronze skin, sharp, spirited eyes, and a square-shaped face. He stepped forward and looked at Ge Xing. “Which tribe are you from, and why are you here? There’s not much prey on this plain.”
His demeanor carried no hostility. Ge Xing smiled warmly. “We’re from the Watson Tribe in Ainilu Forest. There were too many wild beasts upstream, so we had to migrate here.”
The young beastman’s eyes widened in surprise as he looked at Ge Xing. “You’re Chief Ge Xing?”
Ge Xing raised his eyebrows in astonishment. “You know me?”
Oh ho, has the great name of this beast already spread to the downstream tribes?
The young beastman nodded, his expression a bit odd. “My father told me to be extra cautious if we ever meet the chief of the Watson Tribe at a gathering. He said you have a very thick hide and no shame at all.”
Ge Xing: …
Kid, are you serious?
The young beastman’s gaze was earnest and sincere, without the slightest hint of deceit.
“Pfft~” One beastman couldn’t hold back their laughter.
“Pfft-hahaha~” More beastmen started laughing.
Even Ji Nuan couldn’t help covering her mouth to stifle her laughter. It seemed this beastman’s father had suffered a significant loss at Ge Xing’s hands—it sounded almost like a family mantra.
Ge Xing’s face scrunched up in embarrassment as he glared at the young beastman. “Who’s your father?”
The beastman scratched his head and flashed a wide grin. “My father is Xiong Da! He said that during his first tribal gathering, you tricked him out of all his crisp sweet fruits with a single beast hide. When he got home, the shaman punished him harshly.”
Ge Xing’s face turned beet red with embarrassment. This little cub is that dumb bear’s child? And he’s exposing me in front of everyone like this?!
Do I look shameless to you? Couldn’t this have been said in private?!
After an awkward silence, Ge Xing finally grumbled, “Would you like to come in and sit?”
(Ge Xing’s inner thoughts: Please say no!)
