“Tribe members!” Ge Xing’s voice rang out across the vast plain, drawing the beastmen’s attention.

His chest rose and fell with excitement as his loud voice became even deeper and more resonant. “You may be wondering how we’re going to survive on this plain. For certain reasons, I can’t tell you the full details yet, but for now, just follow my instructions.”

The beastmen exchanged glances before nodding one after another. Although Ge Xing had a playful personality, he had never done anything to harm the tribe, and their trust in him ran deep.

Besides…

Their eyes shifted to the shaman and Ji Nuan standing next to him. One was the shaman, and the other was the future shaman who had made significant contributions to the tribe. Since neither of them raised any objections, everyone felt reassured and put their concerns to rest.

In the following days, the beastmen constructed raised wooden platforms on higher ground, using tree trunks as support. Over these, they stretched beast hide tents, covering them with the grass mats the females had used during the journey. Tied securely, the structures became rainproof and warm little homes.

The females stayed in the tents, tending to the cubs and organizing supplies. Meanwhile, the males carried baskets to collect ample green mud. With only a month left of the rainy season, they had to gather enough green mud to fire bricks and tiles before it ended.

Ji Nuan, sitting inside a beast hide tent, sketched on a piece of mehmeh beast hide beside a small fire. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a layout map for the entire tribe.

In this new settlement, Ge Xing, the shaman, and Ji Nuan had decided that all the houses would be built as small courtyards. The construction would follow an orderly plan, unlike the scattered and haphazard arrangement of the previous tribe.

Row upon row of neatly arranged houses came alive on the map. Surrounding the new settlement was a towering, sturdy wall, creating a vision of a thriving and powerful tribe. This blueprint represented the budding future of their new home.

The rainy season lived up to its reputation, with continuous rain falling in varying intensities throughout the entire season.

So, when Ji Nuan lifted the beast hide curtain for fresh air and saw the sun hanging high in the sky, she froze in place, stunned.

Outside, cheers of excitement echoed from the beastmen and females. Snapping out of her daze, Ji Nuan quickly pushed the curtain aside and ran out. The ground was still somewhat muddy, but the golden sunlight bathed everything in a warm glow.

The sunlight was gentle—not harsh, not scorching—just perfectly comfortable.

Like the rest of the tribe, Ji Nuan spent the entire day outside the tent, reluctant to return indoors even as night fell.

During the rainy season, the hardworking beastmen had not only hauled back five mountain-sized piles of green mud but had also dug the foundations for all the houses Ji Nuan had mapped on the mehmeh hide. They had even completed over two-thirds of the trench for the settlement’s outer walls.

With the clear weather, the tribe divided into three groups. One group continued digging the foundations, another went hunting and gathering stones, and the last group began shaping the green mud into bricks, preparing to fire them into tiles.

Under Ge Xing’s leadership, the Watson Tribe operated in an orderly and efficient manner.

Bo Sen and his group discussed with Ge Xing and decided to join the labor efforts. Since they couldn’t return home for now, they figured they should secure a place to live here.

Meanwhile, the beastmen of the Green Mountain Tribe bid farewell to the Watson Tribe after the weather cleared. They didn’t believe the Watson Tribe could survive on the plains without the protection of tall forests, so they chose to return to their own home in the woods.
