Sa Duo’er, brimming with pride, had no idea that a terrifying tide of wild beasts was surging toward Ainilu Forest from the edges of the distant mountain range.

Ji Nuan’s grass mats received unanimous praise from the females during the migration. Draped in the wide grass mats, they didn’t have to worry about getting drenched in the rain.

The chubby little cubs sat obediently in the warm, soft backpacks on the backs of their fathers or uncles, looking utterly comfortable. The little ones either sprawled out or lay curled up, fast asleep and drooling.

Mao Miaomiao, nestled snugly in the backpack on Ya Li’s back, sprawled out in deep sleep with her limbs splayed in all directions. This sight drew the envious and jealous gazes of the wild beast females. Even the surrounding weaker beast females could feel the unmistakable, begrudging hostility radiating from the wild beast females. With forced smiles, they quickly urged their beastmen to keep moving.

Previously, being in cub form as juveniles didn’t seem so great to them. But now… why did it feel oddly superior? No, they couldn’t say that aloud, or they’d definitely be beaten up!

Ji Nuan wore her woven rain hat and wrapped herself in a grass mat like a little ball as she rode on Xiu Yan’s back. The sound of raindrops pitter-pattering on the grass mat was soothing, and not a single drop soaked her. She breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Ge Tai led a team of beastmen at the front of the group. Whenever they encountered wild beasts, they swiftly handled them, using their numbers to overpower and clear the migration route as quickly as possible.

The days of migration passed in a blur of endless travel.

The journey was much longer than anticipated, and with the added effort of caring for the accompanying females and cubs, it took twelve days to finally reach the Ainilu River.

The Ainilu River, just thawed from the rainy season, had risen significantly compared to their last visit for the tribal gathering. Its currents were also much swifter.

Ji Nuan saw the territory they were heading for. It lay just below their previous crossing point—a vast, boundless plain.

The beastmen’s fur was filthy, caked with mud and dirt. Every one of them looked dusty and disheveled, a far cry from their usual handsome and dashing selves.

The females, climbing down from the backs of their beastmen, wrinkled their noses as they looked at their dirty and smelly partners. Was this scruffy beast really the same clean and good-looking beastman they fell for?

“Tribe members, we’ll rest here for today and set out for the downstream plains tomorrow,” announced Ge Xing, the chief, waving his hand. He led the way to the riverbank, cautiously observing for a while before scooping some water with a large leaf and giving himself a basic rinse.

“Everyone, be careful. This river has terrifying crocodiles and predator fish. They can strip a beastman to the bone in the blink of an eye,” Ji Nuan quickly warned, seeing the beastmen flocking to the river, including some young ones who had never attended tribal gatherings before.

The chief immediately realized the bad example he had set and quickly stood up. “Get back! Everyone, back away! This place is too dangerous. If you’re dragged under by predator fish or crocodiles, no one will be able to save you. And look at you lot—you don’t even have mates yet. What are you showing off for?”

As soon as he finished speaking, he was met with resentful gazes from all directions. Chief, you’re so insensitive! Saying that is a surefire way to make everyone resent you.

Nai Ma, leaning against a tree near the riverbank to rest, turned her head away, unable to bear watching. She didn’t want to see this fool making a spectacle of himself.
