Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 223
As soon as Sa Miu’er finished speaking, the shaman stroked his beard and nodded approvingly. Sa Miu’er truly lived up to being his favorite apprentice, far more farsighted than his father.
“I don’t think so! I believe this wall can hold back the wild beasts. Staying here is just fine—we have such sturdy and warm houses to live in, so why should we go outside and suffer in the rain?” Sa Duo’er’s sweet and delicate voice came from the side as she glanced unhappily at her brother.
Several beastmen nearby, feeling the warmth of the kang beneath them, looked a little hesitant.
Seeing his father’s indulgent gaze toward Sa Duo’er, Sa Miu’er’s expression darkened slightly, and he lowered his head, falling silent.
The shaman frowned. “I agree with Sa Miu’er. Staying here is too dangerous. We can’t put our tribe members at risk just for the sake of these houses and walls!”
Sa Ka’er’s gaze turned icy as he looked at the shaman, who was speaking earnestly. “When I cooperated with the Tumang Tribe before, you disapproved and always tried to stop me. Now you’re doing this again. Are you dissatisfied with me as chief?”
Sa Ka’er’s words instantly put the shaman in a difficult position. His face turned livid as he stared at Sa Ka’er, who wore a defiant expression. After several heavy breaths, the elder shaman climbed off the kang in his beast hide clothing. Shuffling to the doorway, he finally turned back and said, “Very well. I will take those willing to migrate with me. Those who don’t wish to leave can stay.”
As the shaman’s figure disappeared into the rainy mist, Sa Miu’er’s heart sank. The shaman, who had worked tirelessly for the tribe, was now leaving it behind.
Meanwhile, Sa Ka’er and Sa Duo’er, still sitting on the kang, were dreaming of a bright future. To Sa Miu’er, however, it felt like they were spinning on the edge of a deadly cliff, ready to fall at any moment.
Three days passed in the blink of an eye. The beastmen of the Watson Tribe gathered at the entrance of their former food storage cave. Chief Ge Xing was explaining important points to remember during the migration. The tribe members listened quietly, taking in every word.
Not far from the group, Sa Ka’er, Sa Duo’er, and several other beastmen of the Green Mountain Tribe stood together, watching the Watson Tribe with cold eyes.
Sa Miu’er, carrying a small bundle on his back, stood with a few Green Mountain beastmen beside the shaman, listening attentively to Ge Xing’s instructions.
“Sa Miu’er, are you really going to leave with me? Your father and sister are staying here,” the shaman said, his old eyes filled with tears as he looked at the cub who had grown up learning by his side.
Sa Miu’er shook his head. “Shaman, I’ve thought it through. My father still has Sa Duo’er, but you only have me. Ever since my mother passed, you’ve been the one taking care of me. Now that my father insists on staying, I can’t change his mind. But I can decide for myself.”
The shaman wiped at his eyes, his old face filled with relief. “Good, good cub!”
The beastmen from Watson lined up in orderly rows. In pairs, they made their way through the narrow path inside the storage cave and into the back mountains. Strong beastmen were already stationed there, ensuring the safety of the migrating tribe members.
With that, the Watson Tribe left. The once lively tribe was now empty, with only a few Green Mountain beastmen moving about. Sa Duo’er and her mates had taken over Ji Nuan’s house.
Looking at the spacious and comfortable courtyard, Sa Duo’er was bursting with pride. “Hmph! Ji Nuan, you stole Xiu Yan from me, so now I’ve taken your house. Let’s see you suffer in the rain outside!”
