Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 222
“All of it?” Ji Nuan asked in surprise.
Xiu Yan nodded. “There are very few wild beasts in the mountains behind us, but there are still some scattered around. So, we went to check along the migration route. In areas far from nearby tribes, there were few or no wild beasts at all. However, the road was extremely difficult to traverse—almost twice as hard as when we go to tribal gatherings. If we bring the females and cubs, I’m worried they’ll get sick from being in the rain for so long.”
Ji Nuan smiled. “After you left, we came up with an idea. The females can sit on the backs of the beastmen while covered with grass mats to keep the rain off. The cubs can sit in woven backpacks carried by the beastmen. This way, we can travel much faster, and the cubs and females won’t fall ill so easily.”
Xiu Yan’s eyes lit up, and he looked at Ji Nuan with great enthusiasm. “This must have been your idea!”
Ji Nuan smiled softly but didn’t reply.
Outside, the rain continued to patter steadily, while inside, the atmosphere was warm and comforting.
Two days later, another wild beast attack struck the tribe, leaving more than ten beastmen injured. Once again, the tribe’s mood became tense.
“The beastmen’s wounds have already been bandaged. The serious ones will need three days to heal completely, while the others should be mostly recovered by tomorrow,” Ji Nuan said as she washed the herbal residue off her hands, addressing the beastmen in the room.
The shaman had tears in her eyes as she lamented, “I can’t believe we have to abandon the homes we just finished building because of those damned wild beasts.”
The chief gently patted her arm. “Don’t be sad. As long as our people are safe, we can build a new tribe in a safer place. We’ll make houses even better than these, and every beastman family can have a courtyard just like Ji Nuan’s.”
Wiping the tears that had trickled from the corners of her eyes, the shaman nodded silently, though her heart ached at the thought of leaving the tribe she had lived in for over 200 years. She truly couldn’t bear to part with it.
“Well then, I’ll go inform everyone. Three mornings from now, we’ll start migrating to our new territory,” declared Ge Xing, the chief, his eyes gleaming with determination.
Both Ji Nuan and Xiu Yan nodded with equal excitement.
The news of the Watson Tribe’s imminent migration spread like wildfire through the tribe. Some tribe members were reluctant to leave, while others were filled with anticipation. However, the beastmen of the Green Mountain Tribe wore grim expressions.
In Sa Ka’er’s house, several respected beastmen of the Green Mountain Tribe had gathered. The shaman looked at Sa Ka’er’s serious face and asked, “Chief, what’s your opinion? Should we migrate with the Watson Tribe, or stay here?”
Sa Ka’er glanced at the elder shaman and sighed. “I want to stay here. If the Watson Tribe migrates, these houses and the tall walls will belong to our Green Mountain Tribe. I…” He trailed off with another sigh.
The shaman shook his head and turned to his apprentice. “Sa Miu’er, what’s your opinion?”
Sa Miu’er’s expression was calm as he replied, “I think we should migrate with the Watson Tribe. Why would the Watson Tribe give up such strong walls and comfortable houses to live elsewhere, especially during the rainy season?”
He looked around at the other beastmen in the room. “It shows that even the ones who built this wall are not confident it can withstand so many wild beast attacks. Staying here would be too dangerous for us.”
