Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 221
Perhaps he was truly exhausted. Even after Ji Nuan patted his little bottom, the chubby cub merely turned over in his sleep, a suspicious trail of drool at the corner of his mouth, and continued snoring while clutching his blanket.
Ji Nuan shook her head in amusement. After dressing, she climbed down from the kang bed. Outside, the rain still drizzled steadily, and the fresh, humid air made her feel utterly refreshed. She took several deep breaths, feeling as if the stale air trapped in her chest had been expelled.
The storage room still held plenty of food, though most of it was meat. There wasn’t much purple fruit or stinky fruit powder left. Wanting to reward the hardworking chubby cub, Ji Nuan specifically took out purple fruit, green ox meat, and some pickled vegetables.
Returning to the kitchen, she first set the purple fruit rice to steam before starting to prepare the green ox meat and washing the pickled vegetables.
As the sweet fragrance of the purple fruit rice began to fill the air, Ji Nuan boiled the green ox meat in another pot before draining it. She cleaned the pot and added some rendered fat from a grunting beast, then tossed in the green ox meat along with spicy fruits and other flavorful ingredients. Stir-frying for a while, she finally added the tangy pickled vegetables, their mouthwatering aroma spreading through the kitchen instantly.
The strange yet enticing scent soon wafted throughout the room.
After covering the pot, Ji Nuan washed her hands and went back to the bedroom to wake the chubby cub. The little guy had already switched to a sprawled position, snoring contentedly in his sweet slumber.
Ji Nuan stepped closer and scooped him up. Half-asleep, Xiu Yan cracked open his eyes. Spotting the familiar little female cub, he stuffed his round head into her arms, lazily nuzzling against her.
Ji Nuan chuckled and carried him into the kitchen. As soon as they arrived, the cub’s tightly shut eyelids twitched, and his shiny black nose began to sniff eagerly. The fur near the corner of his mouth was already damp with drool.
Setting him down on a beast hide mat, Ji Nuan gave his little bottom a pat. “Go wash up quickly. Food’s almost ready.”
Reluctantly opening his eyes, Xiu Yan glanced longingly at the two large pots on the stove, his stomach growling like thunder.
Unwilling but obedient, he shifted into his beastman form, fetched water to wash his face and rinse his mouth. The icy water jolted him awake.
He then dutifully made his way to the rack of bowls and chopsticks, took out two porcelain bowls, and filled them generously with purple fruit rice—one for himself and one for Ji Nuan. Sitting obediently on the beast hide mat, he stared at Ji Nuan as she dished out the meat.
I’m starving!
Seeing his pitiful expression, Ji Nuan couldn’t help but laugh. She hurriedly placed the large porcelain basin of food on the table. “Go ahead and eat. You haven’t had a proper meal these past few days.”
The cold-faced beastman broke into a wide smile. “You eat too, Nuan Nuan.”
Ji Nuan added some water to the pot to keep the food warm, washed her hands, and sat down at the table. Picking up her porcelain bowl filled with steaming hot rice, she grabbed a piece of stir-fried meat, placed it on the purple fruit rice, and scooped up a bite of both. The fragrant rice and the slightly tangy, spicy meat were absolutely delicious.
Xiu Yan, holding a porcelain bowl larger than his face, ate with gusto. With the stir-fried meat as an accompaniment, he devoured three whole bowls of purple fruit rice. Not even a drop of sauce from the pickled vegetable stir-fry was left.
After eating their fill, the two of them sat on the beast hide mat, patting their stomachs and digesting.
“Where have you been these past few days? We were all so worried,” Ji Nuan asked, looking at the satisfied beastman.
Xiu Yan sat up straight and met her gaze. “We scouted the entire surrounding area.”
