Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 208
“Xiu Yan, let’s head straight to the back mountain. The chief just told us to patrol the area on our way,” Lei Er suggested.
Xiu Yan nodded. “Let’s go.”
“Are we almost there?” Xiao Pipi asked excitedly for the umpteenth time. Ever since learning about her elder sister’s whereabouts, she seemed to be running on pure adrenaline, constantly asking questions.
The beastmen traveling with her were exhausted—not physically, but mentally. What a chatterbox!
Only Bo Sen stayed consistently by her side. He was aware of her limited combat abilities and wanted to make sure that, if danger arose, Xiao Pipi—this little chatterbox—would be protected.
“We’re almost there,” Di Feng said. “Beastmen from the tribe patrol this area every day, so make sure you stay behind us.”
He quickened his pace, moving to the front of the group.
The back mountain, usually alive with the roars of wild beasts, was eerily quiet today, exuding an unsettling stillness.
Di Feng frowned slightly, a sense of unease creeping over him. He stopped abruptly and waved his hand to signal the group. “Hold on. Something’s off. We rarely come to the back mountain, but even so, we should be hearing wild beasts. It’s too quiet.”
The beastmen immediately stiffened, stepping closer together. They instinctively positioned Xiao Pipi at the center of their formation.
Bo Sen’s tall figure shielded Xiao Pipi as he instructed firmly, “Stay close to me and don’t run off.”
Xiao Pipi nodded obediently. Despite her mischievous nature, she valued her life too much to take unnecessary risks.
“Tsk, tsk~ What do we have here?” Di Feng’s caution proved warranted. From the forest ahead emerged a group of beastmen carrying two large prey beasts over their shoulders.
The leader, an ugly and lecherous hyena in beast form, made the entire group tense as they took in his grotesque appearance.
“It’s Hyena Beastmen!” Xiao Pipi whispered in alarm, her voice crisp and clear in the tense silence.
The Hyena Beastmen turned their attention toward the group, but their view was blocked by a wall of beastmen protecting Xiao Pipi.
A fat, tawny hyena stepped forward, its greasy eyes gleaming with greed as it sniffed the air. “Mmm~ A little female, I see! Haha! Hey, little one, these beasts around you are about to become our food. Why don’t you come with us? We’ll take good care of you. Hahaha!”
The hyena’s words were followed by a round of sinister laughter from the group, their jeering tones grating on the ears.
Xiao Pipi shrank further behind Bo Sen, trying to make herself as small as possible. They’re so ugly! My stomach can’t handle this!
Di Feng’s expression grew grim. Judging by the number of hyenas—more than twice their own group—and the fact that they were escorting a little female, he quickly realized they were outmatched. Escaping seemed like the only viable option.
“Which tribe are you from? Why are you hunting in our territory?” Di Feng questioned loudly, his hands moving subtly behind his back to signal the others.
The hyena leader let out a contemptuous laugh. “Hah! Your territory? Soon, this will all belong to the mighty Hyena Beastmen.”
Di Feng’s face darkened. So they really are the group planning to attack our tribe.
“Di Feng!” Song Yu called out, gesturing urgently toward the rear.
Hyenas, known for their cunning hunting tactics, had already sent half their group to circle around. Escape was no longer an option.
