Leisurely Life in the Beast World - Chapter 202
“Where did this beast come from?” Bo Sen raised his foot, wrapped in thick beast hide, and kicked the beast lying in the snow. He turned to the surrounding tribesmen for answers.
A gray-haired beastman scratched his head. “I saw a snow rabbit and was going to catch it, but this beastman suddenly rushed out of the forest. I was about to fight him, but then he collapsed in the snow and stopped moving.”
(Buddy, I have bad news for you—you’ve encountered someone faking it.)
Bo Sen raised an eyebrow. “You guys, lift him up. When we rest in the cave ahead, we’ll wake him up and ask him.”
The beastmen nodded and awkwardly lifted the beast wrapped in dry grass, following behind Bo Sen as they walked toward a direction.
“Ah Nuan, Ling Cub has been crying and crying today. I don’t know what’s wrong with him. He’s cried so much I feel terrible.” Ge Ye, with reddened eyes, clung to Ji Nuan’s arm, looking utterly helpless and pitiful.
Ji Nuan put an arm around her shoulder, lightly patting her back. “Where are the others?”
Ge Ye pouted. “They went out to find a mothering mehmeh beast. Didn’t you say it’s better for cubs to drink milk when they’re little? We figured he should drink some while he’s still small.”
Sighing, Ji Nuan got up, donned her beast hide, picked up a small medicine basket from the kang table, and grabbed Ge Ye’s hand. “Let’s go. I’ll check on the little one.”
At Ge Ye’s home.
The poor little cub was lying listlessly on the beast hide. When he heard movement, he barely flicked his eyelids without even opening his eyes. His tiny nose was dry, and his breathing was heavy, making him look utterly miserable.
Ge Ye’s eyes grew wet, and tears began falling uncontrollably. “Ah Nuan, look at him! What’s wrong with my little cub? It breaks my heart.”
Ji Nuan gently picked up the little one and placed him on her lap. The cub’s breath brushed against her hand, making her notice something amiss. She touched his body and her expression stiffened.
“The cub has a fever. Didn’t you notice?” Ji Nuan turned to Ge Ye.
Still stunned, Ge Ye’s tears poured out again. “I didn’t know! He loves sleeping on the kang, so I thought it was because of that. I… boohoo!”
Ji Nuan didn’t say more. Ge Ye, still young and immature herself, was naturally frightened by the cub’s condition.
“Alright! It’s not too serious. Go to the stove and bring a basin of hot water.”
Ji Nuan carefully wiped the little cub’s body. The little one let out contented hums, his expression relaxed and satisfied. Seeing his enjoyment, Ji Nuan and Ge Ye exchanged a relieved glance.
Through the night, Ji Nuan cleaned the cub’s body several more times, finally bringing his fever down.
“Alright, the cub is fine now. Get some rest. When your mates return, have them prepare some purple fruit porridge. Both you and the cub should drink some.” Ji Nuan patted the dark-circled Ge Ye and spoke softly.
Ge Ye tucked the cub under the beast hide quilt and nodded. “Alright, I’ll do that. Why don’t you stay here and rest too? You’ve been up all night.”
Before Ji Nuan could reply, a cold voice came from outside the house, penetrating the walls. “No need. Nuan Nuan, go home and sleep.”
Ji Nuan and Ge Ye exchanged a look and couldn’t help but laugh.
